If so, then that would also become merely something to be abandoned. But it is not something to be abandoned. Therefore, Nirvana is not a real entity, nor is it the nature of non-reality, which is reasonable. Third, refuting that Nirvana is two, namely refuting three views: According to the view of some schools, Nirvana does not have afflictions and birth, therefore Nirvana is the nature of non-reality, and it itself is the essence of reality, therefore it is also the nature of reality. According to the saying of those schools, it is also unreasonable. If Nirvana is: both real and unreal, real and unreal, if all become liberation, that is unreasonable. If Nirvana is the nature of both real and unreal, then, the real that has obtained the nature of the aggregates of formations, and the unreal that is separated from it, all of these will become liberation, the aggregates of formations will all be liberated, which is also unreasonable, therefore that is unreasonable. Furthermore, if Nirvana is: both real and unreal, [real and unreal, if all become liberation, that is unreasonable. If Nirvana is: both real and unreal, these root verses are missing.] Nirvana is not non-dependent, those two are dependent, therefore. If Nirvana is the nature of both real and unreal, then, Nirvana is dependent on the collection of causes and conditions, not non-dependent, because those two are dependent, because dependent on the real there is the unreal, and dependent on the unreal there is the real. Furthermore, how is Nirvana: both real and unreal? Nirvana is not conditioned, real and unreal are conditioned. How is Nirvana both real and unreal? That is impossible. Why? Because Nirvana is considered unconditioned, while real and unreal are conditioned. For example, the real is produced from the collection of its own causes and conditions, and the unreal is also produced dependent on the real, because of the cause of birth there is old age and death. Therefore, Nirvana cannot be real and unreal.

If it is thought that Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent, but that it has both existent and non-existent aspects, that is also unreasonable. If Nirvana has both existent and non-existent aspects, how can Nirvana, as a single entity, have two contradictory qualities of existent and non-existent? It should not be thought so. Why? Because these two cannot exist in one entity, just like light and darkness. Existent and non-existent cannot exist in one Nirvana entity, just as in one room, at the same time, two contradictory things like light and darkness cannot exist simultaneously. Fourth, refuting the third phrase that is neither of the two (existent and non-existent): If it is said that Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent, If existent and non-existent are established, Then ("neither of the two") can be established. If someone says and asserts that Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent, that is also unreasonable. If existent and non-existent are established, then by negating them, it can be established that it is neither existent nor non-existent. However, when both existent and non-existent do not exist, the negation of them also does not exist. Therefore, this statement is unreasonable. Furthermore, if Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent, then who will realize that Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent? If someone thinks that Nirvana is neither existent nor non-existent, then who will realize this kind of Nirvana that is neither existent nor non-existent? Is there someone who realizes this kind of Nirvana? If there is, then there should also be a self in Nirvana, but this is unreasonable, because there is no grasping, so there cannot be a self. If no one realizes it, then who will determine that Nirvana exists? If it is said that it is determined by those who are in Samsara, then is it completely determined by the discriminating consciousness or by wisdom? First, it is unreasonable through discriminating consciousness, because discriminating consciousness relies on characteristics, and Nirvana has no characteristics at all.
