If so, how can Nirvana not depend on the aggregation of causes and conditions? It will depend on its own aggregation of causes and conditions, because it is a thing. Just like consciousness. There is nothing that does not arise depending on its own aggregation of causes and conditions. Second, refuting that Nirvana is non-existent, divided into two types: the main and the accompanying. The first is: Some Sautrāntikas and others say that because the above-mentioned faults will arise, Nirvana is not a real entity, but the nature of afflictions and births, etc., does not exist. This is also unreasonable. If Nirvana is not a real entity, how can it be a non-real entity? For whom Nirvana is not a real entity, for him the non-real entity also does not exist. If Nirvana is not a real entity, that is, it is not considered a thing, then how can Nirvana be a non-real entity at that time? Why? If the nature of a thing is abandoned and changed into something else, it is called a non-real entity. Because of the faults that have been pointed out, for which aspect Nirvana is not a thing, for that aspect Nirvana is also not without a thing, because for the entity that has not established the nature of a thing, it is unreasonable for the entity of the absence of a thing to exist, that is what is thought, because "if a thing is not established." For whom Nirvana is not a thing, for him the non-real entity that changes into another thing also does not exist. Furthermore, if Nirvana is not a real entity, how can Nirvana not be dependent? For what is not dependent, the non-real entity does not exist. If Nirvana is not a real entity, that is, there is no thing, then the impermanence of the characteristic of the destruction of a thing is the absence of a thing, and that is also established depending on the thing. Therefore, if Nirvana is a non-real entity, how can Nirvana not be dependent? It must be dependent, because it is a non-real entity, just like destruction. Why is a non-real entity dependent? Because for what is not dependent on a thing, the non-real entity of the nature of impermanence does not exist. If a non-real entity is established depending on a thing, then depending on what?

If it is said that the son of a barren woman, etc., would become a non-entity, then the son of a barren woman, etc., is not known in the world to be a non-entity, because the very nature of a thing is not established. As it is said: If a thing is not established, then a non-thing will not be established. When a thing changes into something else, people say that it is a non-thing. This has already been said. Therefore, the term "son of a barren woman" is merely a sound, and no meaning is discerned as to what thing or non-thing it would become. The sky, etc., should also be understood in the same way. Sometimes, in some cases, they are referred to as non-entities. Furthermore, as in: Like the sky, rabbit horns, and the sons of barren women, although they do not exist, they are spoken of in words. Similarly, the conceptualization of things is also like that. What is said there is merely a negation of the conceptualization of things, and does not allow for the conceptualization of non-things. Secondly, if nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing, then what is it? That which is the object of coming and going, that which is relied upon or made a cause, that which is neither relied upon nor made a cause, is shown to be nirvana. Coming here from the past and going from here to the future, birth and death, the object that passes from one to another, conditioned phenomena or a person, or like long and short, relying on the collection of causes and conditions, or like the light of a lamp, being made a cause, whatever the continuum of birth and death is, it does not exist by relying on anything, nor does it exist by being made a cause. That is shown to be nirvana. The mere absence of the continuum of birth and death cannot be considered as a thing or a non-thing. Therefore, nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing. Furthermore, arising and ceasing are taught to be abandoned. Therefore, it is reasonable that nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing. In the sutra it says: Monks, those who seek liberation from existence through arising or ceasing do not fully understand those things. Thus, both arising and ceasing are taught to be abandoned, and if nirvana is the nature of a thing or a non-thing,
