The Father and Sons, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, consider that there is realization of the selflessness of phenomena. According to their system, it is clear that those Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha Aryas who enter the Mahayana also need to newly generate the path of application and the path of seeing for the realization of the selflessness of phenomena. What is the difference between mind and mental factors? These minds and mental factors arise from the same causes and conditions, and they engage with the same object and aspect. Because of this reason, the differences between these are difficult for ordinary people to discern. However, relying on the scriptures, I will explain a little. It is said in the scriptures, "That which sees the meaning is consciousness; the difference of that is mental factors." Therefore, mind is that which grasps the essence of the meaning by its own power, and mental factors are that which grasps the distinctions of the meaning by its own power. These two are distinguished by way of merely different aspects. Although there is much to be said about this, I have not written it because I am afraid of too many words. What is omniscient wisdom, mind or mental factor? The impure minds and mental factors of sentient beings, when transformed, are omniscient wisdom. Therefore, the omniscient wisdom that is the transformation of the impure mind is the completely pure mind. The omniscient wisdom that is the transformation of the impure mental factors is the completely pure mental factors. That is to say, the mirror-like wisdom, the discriminating wisdom, the accomplishing wisdom, and so on, are pure minds. The aggregates of samadhi, the aggregates of wisdom, the aggregates of liberation, and so on, are pure mental factors. What are the views of Dharma Lord Kunkhyenpa, Buton Rinpoche, and Sakya Pandita? Dharma Lord Kunkhyen Chenpo (Omniscient One) thinks like this: The first teachings showed conditioned phenomena as impermanent, suffering, etc., thereby causing those to be taught to turn away from samsara, generate weariness, and aspire to nirvana. In this way, the gross attachment to samsara was eliminated. Then, in the intermediate teachings, conditioned phenomena of dependent origination were shown to be empty of their own essence, thereby eliminating the attachment to things that arise from thinking that impermanence, etc., are real. Then, in the final teachings, the Sugata-garbha of ultimate truth was shown to be a permanent, stable, unchanging dharma, thereby eliminating the view that everything is
