For a long time, the Mahayana teachings declined. Later, the noble Nagarjuna appeared and extensively propagated the Mahayana teachings, as predicted by the Buddha. Later, the noble Nagarjuna composed treatises such as the 'Collection of Middle Way Reasonings' to clarify the view, and the 'Compendium of Sutras' to clarify the practice, thus propagating the Mahayana teachings. At that time, some Shravakas, having not heard the sound of the Mahayana for a long time, used this as an excuse to slander, saying that the Mahayana was not the Buddha's teaching, but was fabricated by Nagarjuna himself. Therefore, I think like this: The Vinaya Pitaka spoken by the Bhagavan, known as the four divisions of the Vinaya, is only this one collection of one hundred thousand sections. Because there were four commentators with different views on how to take vows, etc., four practices of followers arose from them, and they split into four schools. These schools, again, due to differences in location, teachers, and clothing, etc., developed eighteen internal divisions. But all of these follow the same Vinaya Pitaka of the Bhagavan, so they have not deviated from the Buddha's teachings. I think so. If understood in this way, it aligns well with the dream of King Kriki, who dreamed of a large cloth being pulled in all directions by eighteen people, but the cloth itself was not damaged. The Vaibhashika school prophesied that the Buddha's teachings would split into eighteen schools, but the cloth of liberation would not be damaged, and this perfectly matches the prophecy. I think so. The fundamental differences of these schools and the branches that arise from them are clearly explained in Acharya Lekdenjey's 'Blazing Logic' and 'Wheel of Differentiated Schools,' so one should look there. Because of the length of the text here, I have not written it. If asked how many divisions there are in the Sutra school, I have not seen a clear treatise that makes such divisions. Some Tibetans say that, like the Mind-Only school, there are those who assert true consciousness with an equal number of consciousnesses, and those who assert manifold non-duality.

Regarding the tenets of the five objects (ས་བྱ་གཞི་ལྔ,sa bya gzhi lnga), the Sarvastivadins assert that form, mind, and mental factors are all substantially existent. Regarding non-associated formations and conditioned phenomena, the Sarvastivadins consider them to be substantially existent, while the Sautrantikas consider them to be nominally existent. Regarding mind and mental factors, the Sarvastivadins assert that they lack the aspect of an object and lack self-awareness, while the Sautrantikas hold the opposite view. Regarding form, the Sarvastivadins assert that it exists through non-manifestation and unobstructed contact, while the Sautrantikas assert that everything has obstructed contact. In terms of the path, there is not much disagreement, as all individuals of the three types of faculties attain liberation by meditating on the selflessness of the person alone. In terms of the result, the Sarvastivadins assert that both Nirvana with remainder and Nirvana without remainder are substantially existent results that are free from all things. The Sautrantikas, on the other hand, consider it to be a non-affirming negation where the obstructions are eliminated by the antidotes that prevent the abandonment of what is to be abandoned. The Sarvastivadins assert that the result of an Arhat can degenerate and transform into a backslider, etc. The Sautrantikas, however, assert that one only degenerates from the meditative concentration of dwelling in bliss in the present life, and therefore do not believe that one degenerates from the result called "one who degenerates from the Dharma." Regarding the Mind-Only school, is there a distinction between the two aspects of true and false? The answer is that there is nothing other than these two. Within the true Mind-Only, there are two divisions: those who assert that all phenomena are distinct and non-dual, and those who assert that the number of the apprehended and the apprehender are equal. The former asserts that the appearance of various colors such as blue, yellow, white, and red in one consciousness is the very nature of that one consciousness. The latter asserts that there is a true Mind-Only called "seeking through the five gates," which asserts that apart from the appearing consciousness, there is also a consciousness of distinct nature, and that this consciousness is truly existent. Within the false Mind-Only, there are two divisions: those who believe that the apprehended and imputed appearances manifest in consciousness (tainted consciousness), and those who do not believe that the apprehended manifests in consciousness (untainted consciousness). What is the difference between the two aspects of true and false? The true Mind-Only asserts that the apprehended appearing in consciousness, although appearing as external objects due to the power of habit, is actually the nature of consciousness itself and not established as external objects. The false Mind-Only, on the other hand, asserts that apart from the apprehended appearing as external objects due to the power of habit, in reality, it is neither an external object nor an internal consciousness, but rather a baseless imputation. Both assert that there is no truly existent external object and no truly existent internal consciousness.
