That is how it is considered. In that case, the great chariots of Madhyamaka consider the intermediate (teachings) as definitive and the final (teachings) as provisional, believing that the intention of both is Madhyamaka, but they do not consider the final (teachings) to teach only consciousness. The great chariots of the Mind-Only school consider the intermediate (teachings) as provisional and the final (teachings) as definitive. They believe that the intention of the intermediate (teachings) is also Mind-Only, and they do not consider it to be Madhyamaka. The later treatises of Maitreya are considered by the great Madhyamaka masters to be Mind-Only. There is no separate explanation of the Sutras of Madhyamaka and Mind-Only, but it is thought that Madhyamaka and Mind-Only are separated by the way people's minds realize them. That is so. The early Tibetans explained the first teachings as the tenets of the two Hinayana schools, the intermediate teachings as Madhyamaka, and the final teachings as Mind-Only. Although they explained all four tenets as the intention of the Buddha's teachings, the latter three tenets were only explained by later disciples of inferior intelligence in accordance with their own inclinations, and they did not abide by the intention of the Buddha's teachings. The Blessed One taught three vehicles to people of three different capacities, but he did not teach any tenet of substantialism. The intention of all the Mahayana sutras abides in the way of non-extremist Madhyamaka, and the difference between the Greater and Lesser Vehicles is not distinguished by whether or not one realizes emptiness, but by means of skillful means such as bodhicitta and aspiration. Nagarjuna and his son believe this. How are Madhyamaka and Mind-Only distinguished? In general, there are countless differences between Madhyamaka and Mind-Only, but the main difference is whether or not one believes that alaya-vijnana is truly real in the ultimate sense. However, some later people who claim to be Madhyamikas consider the establishment of alaya-vijnana as ultimately real to be a bad view of the Mind-Only school, and they seem to believe that jnana is established as ultimately real. Such people are like those who accept the tenets of non-Buddhists but want to be the pinnacle of Buddhism, like a donkey wearing a leopard skin. Is it unreasonable to distinguish between Madhyamaka and Mind-Only by whether or not one accepts the extinction of lineage, transformation of the basis, etc.? That is so. Even the Mind-Only school does not accept the ultimate extinction of lineage. Some Madhyamikas also make classifications of the transformation of the basis, the eight consciousnesses, and the three natures. However, the focus of attention is different from that of the Mind-Only school. Madhyamaka...

What is the boundary of realization? If it is manifested through meditating on the meaning of Madhyamaka, it is impossible until the path of seeing is attained. For a few intelligent individuals, cutting off the superimposition on the meaning of emptiness through hearing and thinking is possible even from a small part of the accumulation path. It is impossible not to realize the meaning of Madhyamaka after attaining the bhumi, but some say that there are noble ones who, while abiding in samadhi, do not remember it in the subsequent attainment and accept the mind-only. Others say that there are no noble ones of the mind-only school. How does this stand in terms of meaning? If one realizes emptiness while abiding in samadhi, how can there be a noble one who does not remember it in the subsequent attainment and accepts consciousness as truly existent? One who accepts consciousness as truly existent cannot even smell the scent of a noble one. Do those prophesied by the Buddha, such as the brothers Asanga and Vasubandhu, Dignāga, Dharmakīrti, etc., truly accept the mind-only or not? The teacher Śāntarakṣita says that they accept the mind-only. The glorious Candrakīrti and others also think so. When refuting the tenets of the mind-only school, the teachers first put themselves in the position of the mind-only school and then refute it without hesitation. If the teachers do not accept the mind-only, then if one asks, "Who are the texts and teachers who accept the mind-only school?" no Tibetan scholar can be found who can point them out. Some say that the teacher Candrakīrti believes that the Buddha does not have wisdom established by its own nature, and others say that that is not the teacher's intention. How is this? In the intention of the Buddha, Nāgārjuna is without error, and in the intention of Nāgārjuna, Candrakīrti is without error. The intention of the noble fathers and sons, such as Nāgārjuna and Candrakīrti, has been shown a little above, so please discern with your own intelligence. However, this aspect is very profound and difficult to fathom, so it is difficult to be accepted by most people. Although impure appearances do not exist in the realm of the Buddha, it seems that there are immeasurable appearances of pure form bodies and wisdom, which is similar to the mind-only school. Is this the same as or different from the Madhyamaka school? It seems that the mind-only school, including both true and false aspects, believes this to be the case. It also seems that the Yogācāra-Madhyamikas, such as Siṃhabhadra, also believe it to be the same. The abbot Śāntarakṣita hid Jñānagarbha, and the teacher Dharmottara, etc.
