Such as sights and sounds that do not deceive children. The second is illusions and reflections, etc., which arise from damaged faculties and become the objects of consciousness, and are not even established as true in conventional terms. The Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds says: 'The six senses without impairment, perceive some objects, which the world acknowledges as real; the rest, the world itself says, are considered to be the opposite of the world.' Thus it is said. These two are called, in order, the true conventional and the false conventional. These two truths are also different in conventional terms because they are the respective objects of sound and consciousness. But in ultimate truth, they cannot be spoken of as either the same or different. As it is said in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra: 'The realm of actions and likewise, the nature of meaning and characteristics, are of a nature that is free from one and different. Whoever thinks of them as one and different, enters into false discriminations, not in accordance with reality.' Thus it is said. It is unreasonable to think that the two truths should not be different even in conventional terms, because it is not permissible to separately establish these two, and the conventional terms of the two truths would also become unreasonable. If we differentiate the outsiders, how many are there? In summary, they can be grouped into two: those who assert permanence and those who assert annihilation. If we differentiate in detail, there are countless, and if we differentiate slightly, there are five schools of logicians: the Samkhya, the Vedas, the Ucchedavada, the Vaisheshika, and the Lokayata. The first four are those who assert permanence, and the last is the one who asserts annihilation. The internal differences of these schools are endless. The difference between those who assert permanence and those who assert annihilation is that although all assert the existence of a self, those who assert permanence believe that this self experiences the results of karma by passing through many previous and subsequent lives, and therefore they are those who assert permanence. Those who assert annihilation believe that the self suddenly arises from the elements, and that the self is permanent as long as it lives, but that when it dies, the continuum is cut off and it does not take rebirth, and therefore they are those who assert annihilation. What distinguishes the internal from the external? There are three distinctions between internal and external: internal and external distinguished by both view and conduct, internal and external distinguished only by view, and internal and external distinguished by the path of means. The first is further divided into internal and external individuals and internal and external tenets. The difference between internal and external individuals is that an individual who takes refuge in the Three Jewels is an internal Buddhist.

Thus it is said that a person who takes refuge in non-Buddhist gods such as Vishnu and Brahma is a non-Buddhist. Therefore, the difference between internal and external persons is distinguished by practicing refuge and so on, but not by view, because there are many internal and external persons who do not understand the view. The difference between internal and external tenets is mainly distinguished by view, that is, any scripture that teaches that it is in accordance with either the extreme of permanence or the extreme of annihilation, and that has many faults, is a non-Buddhist tenet, because their intention has become external to the Middle Way that abandons permanence and annihilation. Any scripture that teaches the abandonment of the extremes of permanence and annihilation and wants to teach the Middle Way is a Buddhist tenet. Therefore, all four proponents of tenets consider themselves to be their own tenets, because they all want to follow the Middle Way taught by the Buddha, which refutes permanence and annihilation. Among them, each proponent of tenets has a different way of abandoning permanence and annihilation. For example, the Vaibhashikas abandon the extreme of permanence because conditioned things are destroyed in an instant, and they abandon the extreme of annihilation because they continue without interruption. The Sautrantikas say that they are liberated from the extreme of permanence because the causes themselves cease, and they are liberated from the extreme of annihilation because they produce results that are similar to themselves. The Mind-Only proponents say that they abandon the extreme of permanence because the imputed nature is without self-nature, and they abandon the extreme of annihilation because the dependent nature is truly established. The Madhyamikas say that they are liberated from the extreme of annihilation because they do not deny the way things appear in conventional truth, and they are liberated from the extreme of permanence because the suchness of things is free from all extremes of elaboration, which is the Ground Madhyamika. They are liberated from the extreme of permanence because wisdom does not grasp any dharma as a sign, and they are liberated from the extreme of annihilation because compassion accumulates vast collections for the benefit of others, which is the Path Madhyamika. They are liberated from the extreme of permanence because they have attained the Dharmakaya, which is the complete pacification of all signs of elaboration, and they are liberated from the extreme of annihilation because the two Form Kayas perform benefits for sentient beings of superior and inferior capacity until samsara is not empty, which is the Result Madhyamika. Thus, the first three are similar to the Middle Way, and the latter is the nature of the Middle Way.
