That which is unsaid. According to the Madhyamaka school, the appearance of external objects and the appearance of internal grasping are other-powered. Those that are imputed by conceptual thought are the thoroughly imputed. The appearance itself, not established as it is imputed by conceptual thought, is the thoroughly established. What is the nature of the two truths? There are four views of the four schools of tenets. The Vaibhashikas believe that when destroyed by destroyers such as hammers, the vase and so on, which the mind does not accept, and when the nature of matter is individually removed by the mind, water and so on, which the mind does not accept, are conventional truths; not abandoning the mind of destruction and demolition, independently generating knowledge, such as form and sound, are considered ultimate truths. As stated in the Treasury: "What is destroyed and different from the mind, When removed, the mind does not accept it, Like a vase and water, it is conventional, The ultimate exists as it is." The Sutrantikas believe that the ability to produce results in meaning is the ultimate truth, and that which exists as if functioning in the mind is the conventional truth. As stated in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Whatever has the ability to function is the ultimate, That is the ultimate here, The rest is the conventional." The Mind-Only school believes that the object of non-conceptual wisdom is the ultimate truth, and that through rational analysis, the ultimate truth is established as real, so it is divided into two. The first is: the unchanging thoroughly established. As stated in the Summary of the Abhidharma: "The object of complete purification is the ultimate truth." And it is said: "Why is it called ultimate? Because it is the object of the noble and supreme wisdom." The second is: all the phenomena of knowledge included in mind and mental factors. As stated in the Summary of the Essence of Wisdom: "The consciousness that is free from the grasped and the grasper, Is considered the ultimate truth." There are also two types of conventional truths: the conventional truth that obscures the seeing of reality, and the conventional truth that cannot withstand rational analysis. The first is the nature of the other-powered, the mind and mental factors included in the non-true thoroughly imputed. As stated in the Summary: "The object that is completely afflicted is the conventional existence." Therefore, the other-powered is established as real through rational analysis, so it is the ultimate truth, and it obscures the seeing of reality, so it is the conventional truth.

Therefore, in some parts of the Vijnanavada school, it is called conventional. The second is the nature of the completely imputed, as previously explained. In the "Thirty Verses," it says: "By whatever discriminations, on whatever things, names are variously applied, that very completely imputed, its nature is non-existent." That is what is said. Among these, the dependent is the nature of ultimate truth and a synonym for conventional truth, because when analyzed with reason, it is truly established as a substance, and in the "Compendium of Determinations," it is said to be a conventional truth with different names. The completely imputed is the nature of conventional truth, because it is not a substance and is established only by designation. In the commentary on the "Discrimination of the Middle and the Extremes," it says: "Why is it called nature? Because it is not a substance and exists only in designation, therefore it is called nature." That is what is said. The Madhyamikas believe that the way these phenomena of appearances and sounds are seen without deception by the wisdom of the noble ones' equipoise is the ultimate truth, and the attachment that ordinary people have to these phenomena is considered the conventional truth. In the "Entering the Middle Way," it says: "Seeing all things as truly false, one grasps the two natures of things. Whatever is the object of true seeing is the ultimate truth, and what is seen as false is considered the conventional truth." That is what is said. What is it like that the noble ones see without deception? It is that which is free from all extremes of elaboration, and cannot be pointed out to others with words, saying, "This is it." It must be understood individually through the power of meditation. As it says in the sutra: "Inexpressible, unthinkable, beyond words is the Perfection of Wisdom." and so on. Nagarjuna said: "Not known from others, peaceful and without elaboration, without discrimination and not different in meaning, that is the characteristic of that very thing." Aryadeva also said: "Not existent, not non-existent, not both existent and non-existent, nor the nature of both, liberated from the four extremes, that is what the Madhyamika understands." That is what is said. Unborn, unceasing, emptiness, and so on, are also considered to be ultimate truths with different names. Conventional truth is also divided into conventional truth and mere conventionality. The first is the object of the consciousness arising from the unimpaired six sense faculties, before seeing suchness.
