Having arisen in the intermediate state as the Sambhogakaya, and then transformed into the Nirmanakaya, by training in the three characteristics of the indivisibility of the three kayas, in that very intermediate state, one will attain the great accomplishment of Vajradhara without needing to train. This is what the early lamas taught. Now, to explain these six branches in detail, there are six parts. First, the explanation of the first branch, the withdrawal: Of the ten faculties, in all their respective spheres of activity, because of individually withdrawing desires, it is called individual withdrawal. Regarding this, in the state of perfect luminosity, in the stage of training in union, when training in the three conducts, it means to show how to enjoy the five desirable qualities as desired, through knowing their nature. Regarding this, the ten faculties are the five faculties and the five objects. The respective spheres of activity of these are, for example, the eye faculty entering its own object, form. In all, that is, in the classification of inferior, intermediate, and superior, for the merits of the five desirable qualities such as form, the faculties that have their respective objects, repeatedly withdrawing and taking them, therefore it is called individual withdrawal. In order to properly combine this, the second branch is the teaching of meditation: The five desires, in brief, through combining with the five Buddhas, contemplation is called meditation. This refers to contemplating the five objects and five faculties as the nature of the five Tathagatas, this is meditation with characteristics. Regarding this, the five desires such as form are the nature of the five Buddhas such as Vairochana, and the five faculties such as the eye, in brief, the completely pure contemplation of combining into one, that yoga is called meditation. The divisions of that meditation are fivefold: conception, discernment, joy, and also bliss, and also the single-pointedness of sentient beings, these five are the collection of meditation. Regarding this, in the Dharma Abhidhamma Sutra, it is said that the first dhyana has five branches such as conception and discernment. In order to conform to this terminology, here also it is said that meditation has five branches, but the meaning is not the same. Explaining these branches individually: In all the secret tantras, various forms have been fully explained, the three secrets of body, speech, and mind

It says, 'It is discrimination, its enjoyment is observation.' Thus. The three secrets are: object, sense faculty, and consciousness. The objects of sense faculty and consciousness, the five such as form, are the nature of the five Tathagatas. Thus, what is discriminated is discrimination, and those such as form are the enjoyment of the five Tathagatas, the four mothers such as Vajra-matri that is Touch, or the nature of the five goddesses such as Rupa-vajra-matri, such discrimination is observation. Meditating on the five objects as the nature of the five Tathagatas and the five goddesses, etc., in all the secret tantras such as the Compendium, it is explained not just once, but in many ways. As in the previous seventh chapter, it also says: 'Form has three knowables, one should offer to the gods, that very Bhagavan is various, the basis of Buddha Vairochana.' etc., and also says: 'Form, sound, taste, etc., meditate as the deity of mantra.' etc., therefore. With the remaining limbs of meditation, showing the benefit of practice: 'Joyful touch is the third, gathered by bliss is the fourth, the arising and ceasing of knower and known, one should know one's own mind as the fifth, all Buddhas are truly peaceful, abiding well in all desires.' Thus. Thus, at the time of practice, by discriminating and meditating on the nature and differences of the five desirable qualities, it is manifestly directed towards the arising of the wisdom of that very union, whatever has the characteristic of mental ease is joyful touch, which is the third limb. By manifestly entering into the suchness of luminosity, whatever bliss is obtained that has the characteristic of extreme pliancy of the body, etc., is gathered by bliss, which is the fourth limb of meditation. These are temporary benefits. The ultimate benefit is that, from the power of practicing in this way, because of reaching the ultimate limit, the knowledge of the nature of the six consciousnesses, and the knowable of the nature of the six objects such as form, the arising and ceasing of those two is emptiness of the two graspings of subject and object, which is the nature of non-dual wisdom that is separated from the two graspings of subject and object, what is called one-pointed mind, one should know as the fifth limb. Such emptiness of the two graspings of subject and object
