The nature of, the order of making the three minds manifest, the function of the three minds, the practice of the three minds, and the nomenclature of the three minds. The first aspect is also divided into three: manifestation, increase of manifestation, and near attainment. First, the nature of manifestation is: ai (Tibetan, Devanagari: ऐ, Romanized Sanskrit: ai, literal Chinese meaning: ai), is the supreme wisdom, the lord of moments free from attachment, the one who fully knows in the three realms of existence, this is shown in the root. Thus it is said, ekaraṇa (Tibetan, Devanagari: एकरण, Romanized Sanskrit: ekaraṇa, literal Chinese meaning: one cause) means root, so it is combined with "shown in the root." What is it? It is the supreme wisdom, that is, the first manifestation of mind. Manifestation, when producing fruit, is called wisdom because it produces the gentle nature of desire like a mother. By what? By the root or cause of the thirty-three natures, such as being free from attachment, which fully knows the differences in the three realms of existence. These arise in moments, instants, and moments, so they are called lords of moments. Second, the nature of the increase of manifestation is: vaṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: vam). Beautiful like a lotus stalk, possessing the increase of attachment, etc., is the increase of manifestation, thus it is known, named means. Thus it is said, patavaṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: पतवं, Romanized Sanskrit: patavaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: lotus stalk) means like a lotus stalk. Just as the lotus stalk is empty inside, but branches and so on arise from the nodes, so is the increase of manifestation, although empty of the duality of subject and object, it has the ability to produce forty natures such as attachment. That increase of manifestation is called discriminating consciousness because it knows the distinctions of form and so on, and because it produces fruit, it is like a male, producing the strong nature of anger, so it is called means. Third, the nature of near attainment is: the great ignorance itself is the root, the ignorance reversed from the order, this also arises from ignorance, therefore manifestation arises. Thus it is said, mahavidha (Tibetan, Devanagari: महावि, Romanized Sanskrit: mahavidha, literal Chinese meaning: great wisdom) is great clarity, because ignorance is reversed, the nature of great clarity is luminosity, that is the root or cause. Of what? The three minds at the time of rising from luminosity are the ignorance reversed from the order. Moreover, when the three minds enter the order of arising of luminosity, this luminosity also arises from the near attainment of ignorance. At the time of the arising of the order, because luminosity arises from ignorance, the reverse of the order

At that time, the three appearances of ignorance and so on arise from the clear light. Secondly, the order in which the three minds dissolve into the clear light is shown: Ya. Consciousness first goes, its name is the spreading of appearance, it goes to the great emptiness, and it also goes to the clear light. Thus, when the three minds arise in order, how does ignorance arise from the clear light? Yati (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is called the goer, when the three minds enter the clear light, where does the first consciousness go and dissolve? Its name is the spreading of appearance. The spreading goes to the great emptiness of ignorance and dissolves. That ignorance goes with the clear light and dissolves. Therefore, after ignorance, the clear light manifests, so it is said that the clear light arises from ignorance. The function of the three minds, the first of the three, is briefly shown as follows: Shru. The nature of the three appearances, whoever hears the three consciousnesses here, the sentient realm is the entirety, this is the root of nature. Thus, Shru (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is hearing, like the nature of the moon, sun, and darkness, the three consciousnesses that have been mentioned before, whatever is heard, here, the realm of sentient beings, the aggregates, elements, and sources are the root or cause of the nature of the entirety, that is, they are. Causing the unaccomplished to be accomplished, and causing the accomplished to abide, is done by the mind. Secondly, the detailed explanation is divided into two: showing the cause of production and the cause of completion. The first is: Bha (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) arising, from this nature also, attachment and non-attachment, etc., from that good and non-good, from that birth arises. Bhanda (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) is called arising, which means "arising". From where does it arise? From the nature of the three appearances, this discriminating consciousness arises. What arises? Natures, such as attachment and non-attachment, etc., the eighty natures arise as appropriate. From those natures, the good karma and non-good karma that produce birth also arise. From those karmas, the births of the five paths also arise. Secondly, there are five ways to show the cause of completion, the first is to show the completion of the element: Ka. The solid element and water nature, likewise fire and wind.
