In the palace made of precious jewels, upon the lunar disc, the Great Vajradhara abides, and thus it is heard. Therefore, among the four yogas that are preceded by the palace and the remaining things, it shows the arising of the principal deity's body. Second, regarding the general meaning, there are two kinds of explanations: the explanation of "Thus it is said" and the explanation of "Thus I have heard" and so on. The first is further divided into the reason for initially showing ཨེ་ཝཾ (E vaṃ, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus it is), and establishing it with scriptural authority. The first is, here, requesting the Vajra Master, with what intention do all the scriptures of the Tathagatas initially show only ཨེ་ཝཾ (E vaṃ, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus it is) as "Thus, I have heard"? If it is said that "i" and "maya," that is, "these are mine," or "i" is also "maya," that is, "with these," etc., can also show the meaning abiding in one's own mind, then the two letters ཨེ་ཝཾ (E vaṃ, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Thus it is) must be spoken at the beginning of the scriptures, because it has become the symbol of the wisdom and means of all the Tathagatas. If asked, how can it be known that it is so? The second is to establish it with scriptural authority, the Bhagavan himself said in response to the question of Indra: Indra asked: Why is this word "Thus it is said" used so well at the beginning? Is this the teaching of the Sugata? Or is it said by the Shravakas? Please dispel all my doubts, eliminate them with one who can cut off the limits of existence. After hearing the words of the Lord of the Gods, who speaks of the qualities of the sacred Dharma, he then gave the approval of "Good!" The Bhagavan said thus: Because the all-seeing one initially said "Thus it is said," Lord of the Gods, please listen in order. The basis and parents of the eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, are thus shown as two letters. The letter ཨེ་ (E, Devanagari: ए, Romanized Sanskrit: e, Literal Chinese meaning: Eh) is the mother, and ཝཾ (vaṃ, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Vam) is known as the father. The drop जल (thig le, Devanagari: बिन्दु, Romanized Sanskrit: bindu, Literal Chinese meaning: Bindu) there is the union, that union is extremely wonderful. ཨེ་ (E, Devanagari: ए, Romanized Sanskrit: e, Literal Chinese meaning: Eh) is said to be the lotus, and ཝཾ (vaṃ, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Vam) is the Vajra itself. The drop जल (thig le, Devanagari: बिन्दु, Romanized Sanskrit: bindu, Literal Chinese meaning: Bindu) there is the seed, from there arise the beings of the three realms. ཨེ་ (E, Devanagari: ए, Romanized Sanskrit: e, Literal Chinese meaning: Eh) is wisdom itself, and ཝཾ (vaṃ, Devanagari: वं, Romanized Sanskrit: vaṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Vam) is the possessor of great joy. The drop जल (thig le, Devanagari: बिन्दु, Romanized Sanskrit: bindu, Literal Chinese meaning: Bindu) is indestructible, from there also arises the letter itself. Of the Dharma,

The two letters of the mudra, who knows their true meaning? These two letters can turn the wheel of Dharma for all sentient beings. If beings do not know these two letters, yet constantly recite them, it is like outsiders abandoning the Buddha's teachings, far from liberation. E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus), these two letters are like illusion, the all-knowing one dwells here, therefore, at the beginning of the sacred Dharma, E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus) is explained in detail. Therefore, Indra, the lord of the hundred gods, if he desires a constant state, should remember the illusion of these two letters and make the sacred Dharma his guru. Thus it is said. There are three meanings here: the retinue asks, the teacher gladly agrees to listen, and the direct explanation of the answer to the question. The first is up to "Please listen." The meaning of the question is: the reason why E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus) is mentioned at the beginning of the scriptures, and whether it is the Buddha's teaching or the Shravaka's teaching. The second is up to "Listen." This briefly explains the answer to the question, that E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus) is the Tathagata's teaching, and it is also a symbol of skillful means and wisdom, so it is mentioned at the beginning of the scriptures. The main text of the answer has two parts: detailed explanation and conclusion. The first part has three aspects: how the two letters represent the principle of skillful means and wisdom, the benefits of knowing the two letters, and the faults of not knowing them. The first part also has three aspects: representation through symbols, representation through shapes, and representation through sounds. The first, E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus), represents skillful means and wisdom through symbols, that is, the two verses "Eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma," etc. Among them, the parents or basis for making all the unaccomplished of the eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma accomplished, and the accomplished abiding, are the two letters E-VAṂ (Tibetan, Devanagari: एवं, Romanized Sanskrit: evaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Thus). For example, the mother is the common cause of different paternal lineages, the father is the uncommon cause of only his own lineage, and the son is born from the union of the parents. Likewise, the sixteen vowels represented by the letter "E" enter into each consonant and act as a common cause, so they are like a mother. Therefore, the letter "E" is the mother.
