Earth-Hen (Tibetan year). All dharmas should be understood as ultimately empty, like a cloudless, clear sky. The opposing factor to be abandoned is the conceptual thought that grasps the illusory body as real and substantial. Regarding the nature of the stages of attaining enlightenment, many Tibetan and Chinese lamas consider the essence of attaining enlightenment in terms of its nature and divisions to be the non-dual wisdom in which the three appearances subside, and the clear awareness of experience does not cease. This is the stage of attaining enlightenment in which all is empty and luminous. To consider the non-dual wisdom in which the appearance of objects subsides as the ultimate wisdom of realization is not the system of the noble father and sons, but rather the assertion of the Mind-Only school's imaginary nature. As it is said in the Compendium of Vehicles: "Because there is no appearance of any object when the non-conceptual wisdom is acting." And: "Like a person closing his eyes, so is the consciousness in equipoise. Like that person opening his eyes, so is the consciousness attained afterwards." So it is said. The teacher Shantideva, in his commentary on the difficult points of the Compendium of Trainings, the Garland of Pearls, says: "As long as any appearance of an object exists, the truth of ultimate reality is not seen, just as a person with cataracts sees hairs and flies, but does not see the emptiness of hairs and flies. If one focuses on all dharmas, abandoning all names and reasons, and dwells in a samadhi without speech or appearance, then by the power of the habitual tendencies of previous practice, it is spontaneously accomplished and without effort. All signs of elaboration subside, and one sees all dharmas as empty, without conceptualization and without appearance, uniquely stainless, infinite, and like the sky. This transcendent wisdom, the main Prajnaparamita of the ultimate Bodhicitta, is the path that arises as the antidote to all obscurations." Therefore, the noble father and sons do not know the consciousness in which the appearance of objects is eliminated, because consciousness and objects of consciousness are mutually dependent, and they consider consciousness to be pervaded by the appearance of objects. As it is also said in the Madhyamakavatara: "If there is no object of knowledge, then the elimination of consciousness is easily attained, and one becomes a Buddha."

It says, "Thus spoke the Buddhas." And, "Even without an object, do not grasp at having a mind. Even with a mind, do not grasp at having no object. These are the essential points of wisdom, taught by the Buddhas to be equally abandoned in the Abhidharma." Therefore, it is said. It is also not accepted as an object of ultimate wisdom. As it says in the Prasannapadā, "Consciousness is that which focuses on characteristics. But in nirvāṇa, there is not even a little bit of characteristic. Therefore, it is not something that consciousness focuses on for the time being." Thus it is said. As it also says in the Bodhicaryāvatāra, "The ultimate is not the object of the mind. The mind is considered to be conventional." Therefore, it is said. Therefore, the noble father and sons consider the essence of clear light to be the wisdom of the noble equipoise. And that wisdom, like water poured into water, is the absorption of the yogi's mind into the unborn, free from elaboration, suchness, which is considered the ultimate truth. As it says in the Abhisamayālaṃkāra, "That which is free from the terms of existence and non-existence, is not the form of merit or the form of sin, is not the nature of merit or sin, is the most supreme, and is said by the Buddhas to be emptiness." And as it also says in the Śikṣāsamuccaya, when explaining the synonyms of clear light, "Suchness, non-erroneous suchness, the ultimate limit, the dharmakāya." And as it also says in the Lamp Illuminating the Teachings, "That which is without conceptualization is wisdom. What is that? It is the inexpressible ultimate truth." And as it says in the Prasannapadā, "Wisdom must focus on emptiness, and it is also the nature of unbornness. Therefore, with the nature of how it is not, it holds that nirvāṇa is neither existent nor non-existent, because wisdom is the nature that transcends all elaborations." And as it also says in the Madhyamakāvatāra, "When unbornness is that very nature, and at that time the mind is also free from birth and cessation, at that time it is said that these depend on that nature, and that it is known to abandon it with this." Therefore, it is said. If clear light is suchness, then the explanation of conventional truth and cause and effect, and the explanation that the three reversed appearances arise from clear light,
