Mind and eyes, etc., are established as the basis of all because they are the cause of other dharmas. Among them, the non-conceptual sense faculty of mind, merely the aspect that tends towards arising at the time of arising is appearance, the aspect that tends towards happiness is increasing appearance, and the aspect that tends towards cessation is near attainment. The appearance of the nature of conceptualization is that which is led by these three, the cause of generating samsara, is the nature of eighty kinds of adventitious stains. Among them, the non-conceptual universal appearance is inferred from the sign of the nature of conceptualization because it cannot be determined by the power of experience as "what is this", and the natures are determined by the power of experience, so it is considered to be manifest. The Nun-mo-can believes that the five sense consciousnesses are non-conceptual universal appearances, and the conceptual consciousness is the nature appearance. Among them, the first sight of form by the eye is appearance, the clearest sight is increasing appearance, and the vague sight by focusing on it is near attainment. The way in which the natures arise from these three appearances is: after the appearance, any one of the thirty-three natures of oneself and the increasing appearance arise; after the increasing appearance, any one of the forty natures of oneself and the near attainment arise; after the near attainment, any one of the seven natures of oneself arises. In the Clear Lamp, it is said that the six consciousnesses are appearance, the afflicted mind is increasing appearance, and the alaya is near attainment. But this is not considered reasonable. Among them, Nagpo Zhap placed the three non-conceptual appearances on the sense faculty of mind, and in the Compendium of Practice, it is said that in this body, the three consciousnesses of appearance are the sense faculty of mind, which is the master of all faculties, etc., which is in accordance with that treatise, and the Nun-mo-can placed the five sense consciousnesses as non-conceptual appearance, which seems to contradict that treatise. There are six kinds of non-conceptual universal appearance: the classification of mind, the synonyms of names, the definition, the length of time of arising, the function of mind, and the cause to be accomplished. There are three classifications: appearance, increasing appearance, and near attainment. There are two kinds of synonyms of names: the teaching to the wise and the teaching to the unwise. The teaching to the wise is also the vehicle.

These are the names commonly known and the names known in the Vajrayana. The names commonly known are mind, intellect, consciousness, imputation, other-powered, and thoroughly established, and so on. The names known in the Secret Mantra are appearance, increase of appearance, near attainment of appearance, and emptiness, very emptiness, great emptiness, and so on. There are two types of teachings for the unlearned: teachings for those skilled in language and teachings for ordinary people. The teachings for ordinary people are: day, night, boundary, man, woman, hermaphrodite, and so on. The teachings for those skilled in language are: teachings using aṃ (藏文,梵文天城体:अं,梵文罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:ཨཾ་), aḥ (藏文,梵文天城体:अः,梵文罗马拟音:aḥ,汉语字面意思:ཨཿ), and as (藏文,梵文天城体:अस,梵文罗马拟音:as,汉语字面意思:ཨས་). There are two characteristics of mind: general and specific characteristics. There are two general characteristics: the characteristic of mind as a phenomenon, which is the conventional nature, and the nature of mind, which is the ultimate nature. The conventional nature of mind is: the mere clarity of self-awareness, devoid of grasping and being grasped. The ultimate nature of mind is: all minds arise from emptiness in the ultimate sense, and the essence of emptiness, like the sky, does not abide in any extreme. As it is said: The wisdom of mere self-awareness Is without characteristics, like the sky. The specific characteristics are: these three, appearance, increase, and attainment of mind, are shown by the examples of moonlight, sunlight, and darkness, and have the same qualities as them. Just as moonlight and so on arise from the sky and dissolve into the sky, these three appearances also first arise from clear light and ultimately dissolve into clear light. And just as moonlight and so on pervade all good and bad things but are not stained by their faults and virtues, these three appearances also pervade all beings in the happy and unhappy realms but are not stained by their faults and virtues. And just as moonlight and so on do not depend on other illuminators to clarify what is known by their own objects, these three appearances are also of the nature of knowing and clarity, so they do not depend on other illuminators. Or, appearance is clear like moonlight, increase of appearance is even clearer like sunlight, near
