It is so. The eight branches of the Upavasa vows of individual liberation, the five branches of a layperson, the ten branches of a novice monk, and the 253 precepts of a fully ordained monk are not defiled by the stains of transgressions. Whoever, in the well-spoken sacred Dharma Vinaya, having renounced the world, does not properly guard the precepts, and recites the Buddha's teachings improperly, those monks are thieves of the world. Speaking crookedly, yet thinking others are foolish, language is not dignified, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the false heart and its behavior, I constantly rely on those who speak honestly. Speaking endlessly, yet thinking others are brave, not guarding speech, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the babbling like a madman, I constantly rely on peaceful behavior. Outwardly disguised, yet thinking others are virtuous, cunning behavior is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the flattering behavior of deceiving others, I constantly rely on honest behavior. Selfish behavior, yet thinking others are upright, not guarding the senses, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the careless and rude behavior, I constantly rely on careful behavior. Doing many things, yet thinking others are clever, craving distraction, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the busy and noisy behavior of householders, I constantly rely on the behavior of few desires. Enjoying wealth, yet thinking others are rich, strong attachment, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the behavior of city dwellers accompanied by possessions, I constantly rely on content behavior. Going to and from the vicinity of villages, yet thinking others are to be tamed, seeking gain and respect, because it is not the behavior of a monk, abandoning the behavior of merchants who crave profit, I constantly rely on the remote dwelling. Thus it is said. Therefore, abandoning all the roots of harming others is the pure Pratimoksha precepts. The Bodhisattva precepts, which accomplish all the benefits of others, are also pure, not defiled by the faults of attachment to gain and respect, praising oneself and disparaging others. Wherever one dwells, if attachment increases, one's own continuum is bound by the oiliness of gain and respect, and the continuum of others is tormented by jealousy and competitive thoughts, one does not dwell in that place even for a moment.

He said: One should never speak of faults, but should speak of things that are in accordance with reason and Dharma. One should not speak of war, thieves, and kings, and should not speak false words. Thus he spoke. One should not be miserly with offerings and generosity to those who are suffering and without protectors. One should not be stained by these faults. For the sake of Dharma, one should not hide the teachings from those disciples who are seeking Dharma and are without protectors, in order to make them understand the meaning of the Sutras, Vinaya, and Shastras until they are satisfied. One should also not be miserly with wealth to those disciples who are seeking material benefits and are without protectors, but should fulfill the wishes of the poor. When this great being was residing in a village in Mangyul (Mangyul, present-day Ngari Prefecture in Tibet), he had no attendant. Two people named Dze Pho Pa Phad came and requested that he give them a portion of food with a good reputation. He went inside and gave them a little food. They said: There is no meat at all. So he gave them a piece of meat. They also requested that he give them a little butter for anointing the body. After searching, he found half a piece of butter and gave it to them. It is said that he also gave them some cloth and ironware. In Gawa Dong, a Khampa invited him for tea and offered a white Ghadam stupa as a gift. On the way back, a beggar asked for alms. He said: Give that piece of cloth to the young monk who is my attendant. So he gave it to him. Also, on the way to Lhasa, he gave each of the two beggars a silver vajra. In Lhasa, many beggars gathered and asked for alms. He said: Call all the friends who are nearby. So they gathered all the beggars from the four districts of Lhasa, including those who were pretending to be beggars, about five hundred people. They piled up silk and cloth together and had the beggars line up to receive them, each person taking a piece. An old beggar said: In Lhasa, there are many who claim to be good lamas, but none are better than Barwapa and this one. Barwapa gave each person from Rin-rgyab a piece of silk. But this one, each of us got a piece of silk or cloth. When he was residing in Bul Rong, Ko Kar left half of the meat for the person, and placed a piece of butter where some crows could reach it, and so on. He was not miserly with wealth, because he was free from attachment to the owner. Whatever gold, silver, cloth, silk, etc. was offered, he only glanced at it and did not cherish it.
