Raskab Rag Asya said: If the words of citation are not remembered, If there is doubt, look at the source texts and lineages. Those essential points to be meditated upon, which are clear in the mind, Are written without concealment for the benefit of others. May the extent of benefiting beings be meaningful! Chapter Twenty-Four, auspicious and complete! Ra. From the "Mountain Dharma: Instructions for Retreat," The practice called "Guiding the Deceased to a Better Rebirth: The Hook of Compassion" is presented here. Namo Buddha Bodhisattva, in the vast expanse of the divine path, With the power of compassionate aspirations, the clouds gather densely. Urged by this fierce and powerful sound of the summer drum of instructions (369), May a stream of nectar flow, relieving the heat and suffering of beings in samsara! The Great Vajrasana said: The four classes of tantras are like the unsurpassed, Meditate on the instantaneous recollection and completion, Abandon doubt about this instruction. The precious human body with leisure and endowments is difficult to obtain, It vanishes like a dream. Traversing the fearful and narrow path of the bardo, The three lower realms are a great precipice. Those deceased ones are truly pitiable! With one breath blown outward, One's own happiness and virtuous roots, Permeate the deceased ones completely, Meditate that body and mind are filled with bliss. With one breath inhaled inward, The sins, obscurations, and sufferings of the deceased, Are completely gathered and absorbed into oneself, This is the intention of the sutras. Then, in the instantaneous recollection and completion, Oneself is the Bhagavan Kunrig (All-Knowing), Completely adorned with ornaments and attire, Meditate on being seated on a lion throne. In the recollection and completion, the samaya and wisdom beings are inseparable (370), There is no need for invocation or empowerment. At the heart, on a moon disc, is a white Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), Surrounded by the mantra garland circling to the right, From it, five-colored rays of light, Emerge from the gate of the urna, Striking all sentient beings of the three realms, Primarily those deceased ones. May the causes of rebirth in the lower realms of samsara, The five poisons and all sins and obscurations be purified, The mantra garland should be recited to the best of one's ability. The rays of light gather back and dissolve into the heart. This is in accordance with the meaning of the Abhisamayalankara (Ornament of Clear Realization) composed by the noble Asanga. Then, in an instant, the place transforms, Oneself is the Buddha Akshobhya (Immovable One), Whether Sambhogakaya or Nirmanakaya, Meditate on being seated on an elephant throne. At the heart, on a moon disc, is a blue Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), The mantra circles around it to the right, Releasing blue rays of light.

Radiating light. For all beings, headed by the deceased, may all karmic obscurations be contemplated as sunlight hitting mist. Recite the Dharani of Kamkani. This is a concise manifestation of realization composed by Chyennga Chodrak and others. Then, in an instant, the place transforms, and you yourself are Vajrasattva, complete with all ornaments and attire. In your heart, the forty-two peaceful deities; in your throat, the pure vidyadhara deities; on your head, the fifty-eight blood-drinking deities. Contemplate them as reflections in a mirror. They are the seeds of the hundred noble families. Recite only the Hundred Syllable Mantra. From the assembly of peaceful deities in your heart, rays of various colors radiate, striking the deceased who are the object of focus. All sins and obscurations are purified, and the rays of light from your own heart cover the deceased. Contemplate them being hurled into Sukhavati like a shooting star. Vajra Sattva Hum Svaha). This is the instruction of the Sky Dharma. Then, from your own heart, rays of light like iron hooks radiate. In the cool grove of the southeastern charnel ground, on the top of a sandalwood tree, resides Six-Armed Mahakala. Contemplate inviting him to reside in front of you. On the crown of Mahakala is Akshobhya, residing with the empowerment mark as his nature. From his body, blue rays of light radiate. Contemplate purifying the sins and obscurations of the deceased. To the Guru Mahakala, who are inseparable, the deceased respectfully take refuge. Pray that the doors to the six realms of rebirth be cut off for all connected deceased. Pray that they be guided to Sukhavati. Thus, by speech or mind, after praying, Mahakala, with his six arms, cuts off the doors to the six realms. Countless emanations like himself proclaim the sound of Hum Phet Damaru. The executioners, vengeful spirits, and flesh-eating demons who do not allow liberation to be attained flee into the darkness in the continent. All connected deceased are tied by the neck with a lasso in his left hand. After being led away involuntarily, all the retinues of Mahakala carry away all the connected deceased. Like a garuda bird flying with companions, contemplate them going to Sukhavati. Om Vajra Mahakala Kshe Ksheta Bighran Binayaka Hum Hum Phet)!
