Fond of pleasure. The maturation of lying is an animal. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, A foul odor emanates from the mouth. The result of the same cause is fondness for lying. (36) The maturation of divisive speech is an Asura. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, There is much separation from all relatives and friends. The result of the same cause is fondness for discord. The maturation of harsh speech is hell. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, There is much undeserved abuse. The result of the same cause is the outpouring of harsh words. The maturation of frivolous talk is an animal. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, Even if speaking the truth, it is said to be a lie. The result of the same cause is impure speech. Greed is also of two kinds: Being overly concerned with oneself is greed for self. What is called greed for others is: The perfections of others, Thinking, "How wonderful if they were mine!" The maturation is any of the bad destinies. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, What is desired is not accomplished, going astray. The result of the same cause is desiring greed. The maturation of harmful intent is birth in hell. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, There is no separation from enemies, fear and dread. (37) The result of the same cause is desiring harmful intent. The maturation of wrong view is an animal. Even if born as a human due to the fruit of habit, Born into a lineage of heretics with wrong views. The result of the same cause is great wrong view. Abandoning the ten non-virtues Is called the ten virtues. From those thirty faults, Obtain the opposite thirty qualities. In general, there are four types of karma. The karma accumulated in a previous life, Must definitely ripen in this life, The fruit of virtue brings collections of happiness. Demons cannot interrupt it. The result of sinful karma brings collections of suffering. Even the Buddha cannot protect from it, Except for the maturation of karma. The karma that is spoken of is: Seeing, hearing, experiencing transformation. The karmic results of this life, virtue and sin, Of medium degree, will not ripen in the next life, Having been interrupted by one lifetime, What ripens in the subsequent life is: The karma of the place of rebirth, experience, and transformation. Small virtues and sins (38) For maturation, there is no certainty. When it must definitely ripen, It is said to be experienced and transformed in other instances. Killing parents, teachers, arhats, Causing dissension in the Sangha, Will not be interrupted by other lifetimes, The bardo

Furthermore, if one does not traverse, one will fall into the Avīci hell realm, hence it is the uninterrupted downward penetration. At the time of death, the samaya is held for a long time, the transference of consciousness is like shooting an arrow through a window, the bardo is not traversed and one is born in a pure land, hence it is called the upward penetration. If virtue is extremely powerful, it will ripen in the next life, hence it is called uninterrupted virtue. Towards parents, vajra masters, the bodhisattvas of the ten bhūmis, and the Buddhas, whatever merit or demerit is accumulated, it is said that it may ripen in this life as well. Even if one commits evil deeds in the first half of life, if one strives for virtue in the second half of life, then virtue will ripen first, and even if evil deeds propel one, it is said that virtue will complete it. (39) Even if one strives for Dharma in the first half of life, if one engages in non-virtue in the second half of life, even if virtue propels one, it is evil deeds that complete it. Virtue that is not made vast by dedication, if one boasts or regrets, it will be exhausted, and evil deeds will be exhausted if one confesses them. Virtue and evil that are not like that, even after hundreds of kalpas, will not be exhausted, one reaps what one sows. Uncommitted actions cannot be encountered, and committed actions are never exhausted. Even if the sun and moon fall to the ground, or the wind is caught by a lasso, or fire turns cold, it is impossible for the results of actions to be deceiving. This is the teaching of all the Buddhas, who would say that this is not true? In this life, the faculty of the tongue is dulled, and in five hundred lifetimes one will be born as a mute. Therefore, if you wish to go to a solitary place, repeatedly contemplate the subtle details of karma and its results, and diligently practice what to adopt and what to abandon. This small song of the essential meaning of karma and its results was spoken during a meditation session on the first day of the victorious month of the Horse year. O you who possess the ocean of diligence, please contemplate well, it is not the time to lie down in ease. Even sleep is like a bird startled, the heart trembles. In this great ocean of saṃsāra, all sentient beings like us are sinking, the waves of birth, old age, sickness, and death are turbulent, the lower realms are filled with aquatic creatures and whales, and the waves of suffering are incessant. If we do not escape this time, we will be devoured by the rākṣasas of the lower realms, and they will be caught by the aquatic whales. The helmsman who can save us from this is none other than the qualified guru. Therefore, generate respect for him. The ship that crosses the ocean of suffering is none other than the vows and samayas.
