Even hard things will perish. This too will be destroyed by fire, water, and wind. The Vajra body of the fully enlightened Buddha, even that shows the manner of passing away. What to say of the small fruit of merit, the fragile human body? Brahma, Indra, the Universal Monarch, even those powerful ones must die, what need to mention other beings? There is no certainty of life in Jambudvipa, especially now in this degenerate age. Forty years of life is like a tattered rag, even that is hard to achieve, death is frequent. From the wise, the virtuous, and the good, from kings down to beggars, there is no place where one can stay without dying. Alas, Ocean of Diligence! Although everyone knows about death, still, this thought of not being wary deceives everyone. It seems I too am being deceived by it, you too should beware of being deceived by it. When they say "father dies, son dies," understand that it is a word of impermanence. When a peer, a young person dies, remember the uncertainty of life. When you see a corpse and bones, remember the nature of the body. When you hear of someone dying despite medicine, remember the uselessness of medicine. When you hear of someone dying despite rituals, remember the impossibility of prevention. Like a guest arriving in the morning, remember that you must leave quickly. Even if you have an ocean of enjoyment, do you have the power to take even a handful of provisions? Even if you have hundreds and thousands of servants, do you have the power to take even one? Even if you have hundreds and thousands of great armors and armies, do you have a place to stop the Lord of Death? Even if you have filled the world with food and wealth, do you have a place to take and leave? That Lord of Death whose coming is uncertain, like a wild thunderbolt from the expanse of the sky. When will it come, alas! That agony of the decisive moment of death, even if surrounded by many relatives and friends, is there a way to share and bear it? At the time of the dissolution of the four elements, the various inverted and deluded appearances, even if intelligence is clear, will it be of benefit? The various terrors of the Bardo, like a great sinner being pursued, fear, terror, and dread, alas! In an unfamiliar land, facing unfamiliar people, when wandering alone without a friend, is there any certainty of where to go? Are provisions ready? In the court of Yama, the Lord of Karma, it is said that lies are of no use. It is said that the blind man's law is clear. At that time, there is no partiality.

May Öndrup Gyatso now recite the song of remembering impermanence and death, which is a condition for going to the solitary retreat. Namo Guru. All the subtle and minute causes and effects, except for the fully enlightened Buddhas, even Arhats cannot fully comprehend, how could we possibly know? The Wheel of Dharma of the Four Noble Truths, primarily explains cause and effect. A realized being who has realized the one taste, understands the meaning of cause and effect, and speaks of the arising of various interdependent relationships. Such a state is not within my reach. However, relying on the words of Shakyamuni Buddha as evidence, I can also speak a little, which is the kindness of the Lama. The external world of the container is also formed by the common karma of sentient beings. The happiness and suffering of the inner sentient beings, all arise from the causes and conditions of karma. Virtuous actions lead to the three realms of happiness, and non-virtuous actions lead to the three realms of suffering. The so-called unwavering karma, is attachment to the taste of meditation, and leads to the realms of form and formlessness gods. Everything is determined by the motivation of the mind, with hatred as the motivation, any non-virtuous action leads to falling into hell. Non-virtuous actions committed with stinginess and desire lead to falling into the preta realm. Non-virtuous actions committed with ignorance as the motivation lead to being born as animals. A mixture of stinginess and virtue leads to being born in the human realm of busyness and poverty. A mixture of jealousy and virtue leads to being born in the realm of fighting Asuras. A mixture of pride and virtue leads to being born in the realm of the falling gods. Great sins lead to falling into hell, medium sins lead to being born as pretas, and small sins lead to being born as animals. Great virtues lead to being born as gods, medium virtues lead to being born as humans, and small virtues lead to being born as Asuras. The ripening result of killing is hell, and the consequential result is that even if one is born as a human, one's life will be short. Actions similar to killing lead to liking killing. The ripening result of taking what is not given leads to being born in the preta realm, and the consequential result is that even if one is born as a human, one will be poor and destitute. Actions similar to stealing lead to liking stealing. The ripening result of sexual misconduct leads to being born in the preta realm, and the consequential result is being born as hairless creatures in cesspools. Actions similar to sexual misconduct lead to even if one is not born, one will crave the wives and daughters of others.
