Sha! Without abandoning the master who has not generated meditation, Go to a secluded hermitage and meditate. It is best to be alone, but even if there are companions, Do not (169) interact too much, confine yourself to being alone. After that, it is very important to cut off worldly affairs, Worldly affairs such as conquering enemies, taking care of relatives and friends, Accumulating food and wealth, pursuing profits, and other thoughts, I have done this before, so I wander in samsara. I have been working hard for this since this life, But I have not been able to fulfill my wishes. Now, before good realization arises, Even if I starve to death, for the sake of food, clothing and wealth, I should think: Thinking about these is like hell. If the mind is focused on cultural knowledge, All of those are for the glory of this life. In order to obtain food, wealth, and tame those who can be tamed, I seek happiness in the next life, I want the perfect Buddhahood. If one can attain Buddhahood by mastering cultural knowledge, Then why don't the non-Buddhist panditas become Buddhas? I seek good realization. If realization arises from mastering explanations, (170) Then why do the famous Geshes of U-Tsang, Still rely on realized lamas again? Why is it necessary to reintroduce the change of practice place? Therefore, abandon the thought of craving merit. When you want to imitate others and so on, If reading scriptures can generate realization, Then these Amitabha offering practitioners should have become accomplished ones long ago. If you want to write letters and so on, If writing letters can generate realization, Then calligraphers should have been liberated long ago. If reciting scriptures can generate realization, Then all the monks in the monastic colleges should have been liberated long ago. Therefore, apart from cultivating the nature of one's own mind, Which the lama has revealed to oneself, There is nothing else to do. With the seven-point posture of Vairochana, sit upright, When relaxing and abiding in the unmodified mind, Nothing is seen, it is emptiness. Self-knowing and self-aware, it is luminosity. Without distraction, focusing on one point, it is one-pointedness. (171) Like a bright lamp in the night without wind, Find a strong desire to practice from the depths of your heart, Be certain that this is meditation. When disturbed by noise, water sounds, dog barks, etc., Unable to stay and wandering around, Feeling that this place is not secluded enough, it would be better to go to a more secluded, Empty valley.

Subduing. If you cannot control your own mind, just like the story of the dragon king Ela's leaves, the obstacles that steal samadhi are everywhere. Therefore, dog barks, water sounds, and so on, when the ears are disturbed and discursive thoughts arise, where do those discursive thoughts initially arise from? Where do they reside in the middle? Where do they go in the end? When there is harm to the mind, what is its essence like? If you examine it well, it will disappear into rootless emptiness. Therefore, for all the disturbing discursive thoughts of non-seclusion, take them as the object of focus and meditate diligently. Afterwards, all non-harmful conditions will appear as help. Then, gradually, the experience of meditation will become greater and greater. Like a spark (172) swirling, like a great ocean swirling. From the meditation arises the clinging that "it exists." Do not cling to that clinging, but directly look at the essence of the one who abides. Clearly see that the essence of abiding is emptiness. Abiding is shamatha, emptiness is vipashyana, merge the two into one, and protect it. By protecting it, the body is comfortable and the mind is also comfortable. The mind thinks, "There is no one happier than me," and the heart is very happy. One likes to sit still and does not like to get up and move around much. The craving for food and clothing also gradually decreases. The power of the body and mind being pervaded by happiness causes most of the day to be spent without distraction. At night, one sometimes appears in the realm of dreams. At this time, what needs to be done is guru yoga, and during the sessions, one should only focus on prayer and calling out. Do not look at scriptures, looking at them will neither help nor harm. Afterwards, that meditation experience, like an ocean, slightly disappears, and the state of clear emptiness nakedly (173) emerges. Just like the sky with the clouds cleared away, clear and naked, a definite understanding arises from the depths of the heart. One thinks that there is no realization more supreme than this. The clinging of thinking "clear emptiness naked" arises. Thinking "clear" and "empty" are discursive thoughts. By looking at its essence, it will disappear into emptiness. There is no clear and unclear, no empty and not empty. Afterwards, the intensity of clarity slightly disappears. One thinks that everything is only emptiness. Even the earth, stones, mountains, rocks, trees, houses, are like the sky, they are empty. One even wonders if one's own body does not exist. The clinging of thinking "it is emptiness" arises. Directly look at the essence of that clinging. Empty and not empty, both are beyond words. Thus, the three experiences of bliss, clarity, and non-thought, continue for years, months, days, and so on.
