Without solid form, meditate like a clear, empty rainbow in the sky. This is not about aspiration or mental fabrication; generate the pride of being your own actual Yidam. From the mandala of body, citta, and heart, upon a seat of lotus, sun, and moon, That mind, heart, life-force, seed-syllable, is clear like a windless butter lamp. (726) Its appearance is clear, yet its essence is empty, like the reflection of the moon in water. Focus your one-pointed awareness on that. When you separate body and mind, Your intermediate state mind-body will not arise; your body will transform into the form of the Yidam deity. Becoming enlightened, inseparable from that deity, you will attain the vidyadhara level of Mahamudra. Therefore, maintain the heart essence for a long time. Speak these words three times with melody. This will surely bring about a stable heart essence. Reciting it daily will cut off wrong paths. Again, the yogi below one-pointedness, first, make the heart essence clear, Then, cut off wrong paths simultaneously. After you recite the heart essence without distraction, Alas! Listen, fortunate son of good lineage! You, son, have passed beyond life. Now is the time to hold the heart essence. Look back at your mind with your mind. The mind is emptiness, without form or color. It is not non-existent; its own radiance (727) is clear. Like a sesame oil lamp without wind, leave the mind one-pointedly in that state. In the realization of the mind's great bliss, look at its essence without attachment or clinging. The meaning is the great seal of bliss and emptiness. The mind is clear, awareness is empty, naked and bare. Do not grasp that as supreme; look at its essence. The meaning is the great seal of clarity and emptiness. The meaning is that nothing is established, it is emptiness itself. Cut off the clinging of grasping at emptiness. Whatever arises in the mind, leave it naturally, without fabrication. Hold the heart essence for a long time, And your realization of emptiness will manifest. Tomorrow, as soon as body and mind separate, Self-born freedom will be attained. Saying this three times cuts off wrong paths. For realizations beyond meditation free from elaboration, there is no need for introduction or clarification. It is enough to recite the heart essence without distraction. For ordinary people who have not grasped the heart essence, Recite the names of the Buddhas and plant the transference of consciousness. If (728) the heart essence cannot be endured for a long time, Disturbing it with incense and music, etc., is an immeasurable fault, an obstacle to samadhi.

Therefore, if phowa is performed, it is said to be like blaming a good horse for having a thin saddle. There is no fault other than benefit. Therefore, do you want the samaya to be unbroken for a long time? Can you not distinguish whether the samaya is broken or not? If you doubt whether the samaya is kept or not, then it is very good to practice phowa. Thus said, on the second day of the month of the horse year, Thakar, Gongtun Ra Ga Asya said, and yogi Karma Birya wrote it down. Chapter forty-four is auspicious and complete! Om! From the "Mountain Dharma Retreat Instructions," called "Waves of the Ocean of Activities, the General Practice Method of Wisdom and Worldly Dharma Protectors." Homage to the Guru Mahakala Dharmapala! For the benefit of those who have few mantras, are newly learned, and have little hearing and thought, I will write down this general practice instruction for Dharma protectors. Ocean of Oath-Bound Ones (729), please grant your blessings. Wisdom Dharma Protectors such as Mahakala, and worldly ones such as Rahula, the Three Vows, and so on, as well as wealth deities, treasure guardians, and so on, whichever they may be, are all methods of common practice. Mandala supports, life stones, and so on, are described in detail in their respective texts. In short, on the ground or on the offering table, arrange piles of grain according to the number of deities, or if it is the main deity, draw an eight-petaled lotus. On top of that, place a throne or a low table, and in it place a suitable container, such as a copper vessel, an iron vessel, or a skull cup. Inside, arrange the tormas, each with its own decorations. The attendant tormas should be smaller, and if possible, prepare them according to the number of deities. It is also acceptable to have no attendants, with the main deity being sufficient. Place the respective tsaklis on top. If there is a thangka, arrange it from the back to the front. Or spread it out directly in front of the tormas. The statue represents the body, and the torma represents the support of speech (730). The pile of grain represents the support of mind, and the connection is clearly explained in the scriptures. The torma itself is the deity, so after the first offering, it does not need to be shaken or offered again. In front of it, place a torma that is slightly smaller than it. It is regularly taken out, offered, and shaken, and this is the constant torma, the continuous torma, which have the same meaning. If it is a wrathful deity, arrange alcohol and blood on the left and right. For wealth deities, arrange all kinds of food that can be gathered. If it is a Naga, add Naga medicine to milk. If it is a Tsen or a worldly earth lord, arrange images of yaks, sheep, and birds made of tsampa. The tormas of wrathful deities are decorated with flesh and blood. Place sheep meat on the cliff.
