Because of the power of blessing, it is possible to generate realization and experience. If one does not realize it in this way, it is like the example of a patterned water ladle. Even if taught, it only becomes a stream of transmission. A realized person without meditation, even if they speak a lot, it is not necessary, is it just meeting and receiving blessings? Even if not meeting, praying with faith, it is possible to generate realization and experience. This is the view of the Kagyu lineage. Both of these are important, therefore, the method of accomplishing Bodhi, whether it is explained extensively or briefly, one must know how to explain without error. Speaking without knowing is worse than killing sentient beings of the three realms, the fault of a foolish person teaching the Dharma is greater, this is what the Thus Gone One said. Knowing and not for the sake of showing off, but giving the Dharma to others with compassion, the merit of speaking one verse of the true Dharma is greater than offering Buddhas by filling three thousand worlds with seven kinds of precious jewels, this is what the Thus Gone One said. Without desiring material things, if a student offers with faith, for the reward of speaking one word of Dharma, even if offering gold as much as one's own body, it is impossible to repay the kindness, therefore, one will not have the obscuration of wealth. The student can also complete the accumulation of merit, offering one hair of the Guru is more superior than offering all the Buddhas of the ten directions. In that life also possessing enjoyment, ultimately it will become the cause of becoming a Buddha. Spreading empowerments, transmissions, and instructions in order to seek food, wealth, and enjoyment, this is because selling the true Dharma and eating it, is worse than a butcher selling meat and a salt merchant selling salt. These two actions are similar, but they are distinguished by the difference in intention. The four objects of gathering are the four means by which all Bodhisattvas benefit beings. Regarding this, Gyalwa Dromton said in praise of Jowo Je (Atisha): "Giving what is needed and speaking pleasantly, Acting in accordance with the world's meaning and taming beings, With the wealth of the four objects of gathering, You diligently accomplish the benefit of others, I prostrate to you." Explaining that meaning in detail, even during the time of practice, Dharma and worldly affairs contradict each other, but during the time of benefiting beings, apart from the difference in intention, Dharma and worldly affairs are united. To benefactors and Sangha members, giving a small amount of food and wealth, but wanting to receive a large return.

Living by wrong livelihood is the cause of bad migrations. To travelers who are hungry and thirsty, immediately give food and drink as available. To travelers coming from afar, provide travel expenses to satisfy them. To worthy patrons of offerings, give gifts and presents. To those who strongly desire Dharma and instructions, give pens, ink, and paper. (586) Because Dharma provisions are cut off, Dharma is suspended. Continue the Dharma provisions to complete the Dharma. To students who are capable of benefiting others, give appropriate scriptures and offerings. To them, take good care and respect them, etc. Do not expect great benefits to come. This is the giving of necessities, which is the practice of Bodhisattvas. Although the method of doing it is no different from before, the difference in intention distinguishes between good and evil. Visiting from afar and, increasing vows at the time of death, etc., comforting those who are sad, and even to those who practice wrong views and wrong Dharma, do not scold but praise their virtues. To words that are suspected of not being listened to, do not speak harsh words but speak slowly. Guide them to the path of goodness by skillful means. This is the Bodhisattva's door to benefiting beings with pleasant speech. The saying "sweet words, evil intentions" is an example. Flattering those who engage in wrong conduct, praising with the mouth but being ashamed in the heart, sweet words but a bitter heart, showing white teeth, (587) such evil thoughts are the cause of bad migrations. Although the methods of doing these two are the same, the meaning is different because of the difference in intention. If you respect yourself and listen to others, reconcile disputes and conflicts, eliminate obstacles for patrons, fulfill all wishes and requests, and if you can guide them to the Dharma, you can also appoint family leaders, scribes, etc. Even relatives, patrons, etc., although there is no attachment in the heart, they are supported in accordance with worldly people. This is called worldly agreement, which is the Bodhisattva's door to benefiting beings. Family leaders, scribes, relatives, etc., although they cannot be applied to the Dharma, they are supported by wealth of attachment. In the next life, they will take the body of a hungry ghost, as said by Songtsen Gampo. Protecting relatives and monks, and thinking with attachment to blood ties, if you protect them, it is definitely the cause of bad migrations. For the sake of gradually introducing them to the Dharma, if so, then that is also benefiting others (588). For the sake of wanting offerings and statues, eliminating obstacles, repelling, fire offerings, empowerments, and for the sake of rituals.
