The antidote to anger is primarily meditating on loving-kindness. All sentient beings, in countless lifetimes, There is not one who has not been our parents, Not just once, but countless times. They are possessed and driven mad by the demon of delusion, Not recognizing me as their child, they harm me. I know that my parents are mad, Besides benefiting them, how can I retaliate? Thus, cultivate immeasurable love towards enemies. I wish to attain perfect Bodhi, I must perfect the perfection of patience, If there is no one to harm, to whom do I practice patience? Therefore, this enemy is my (542) virtuous friend. Regarding unfounded accusations and slanders, Practicing patience can purify immeasurable obscurations. Those who slander are my friends who purify obscurations. If one does not see the poor and suffering, There is no object for cultivating compassion and no object for giving. Without compassion, there is no way to attain Bodhi. If there are no poor, to whom do we give? These evil ones are friends for attaining Bodhi. I wish to attain unsurpassed Bodhi, Sentient beings are more kind than the Buddhas, The three perfections of generosity, discipline, and patience, Arise relying on the kindness of sentient beings. One should not be angry with those who are kind. Shakyamuni also relied on the kindness of Sudatta, Before Maitreya, he was called the Perfectly Enlightened One. Knowing this, if anger is still not pacified, Then contemplate that the enemy is one's mother in this life. Contemplate that she is not just the mother of one lifetime, Is it permissible to harm her? One should contemplate deeply. (543) Contemplate oneself as the enemy, contemplate the enemy as oneself. It is said that transforming one's thoughts pacifies hatred. Meditating on loving-kindness is the method for subduing hatred. The Sutra Pitaka is the main object of practice. The descent from the heavens and the entry into the womb of the Thubpa (Buddha), One should remember and contemplate the twelve deeds. The root of wandering in samsara is ignorance, From that arises action, born from karma, Birth, old age, death, and so on, So-called old age and death are the names for aging and dying. From this arise sorrow, suffering, and discomfort. Because of wandering in samsara, it is the wheel of existence, All go into the mouth of the Lord of Death, Yama, The beings of the six realms reside in the belly of Yama's impending arrival. In order for the Sangha to understand this meaning, There is a tradition of painting this on the left door of the temple.

O! Ignorance ceases, so does action cease, From birth ceasing to old age and death ceasing, The wheel of dependent arising's reversal and liberation (544), To represent the eightfold noble path, A white wheel with eight spokes is placed, On the right side of the temple door. The arising and reversal of dependent arising, Contemplate diligently in your mind. What is this ignorance? It is your own mind's ignorance, Relying on that, you wander in the cycle of existence. Your own mind, with wisdom, ceases ignorance, By becoming accustomed to that, you will attain the noble path. To reduce sleep in the evening and at dawn, Although it is said that you should lie down in a room, To make practice easier, bind the three supports (Buddha image, scripture, stupa) to a pillar. Circumambulate that and strive to recite, Or at night, on the crown of your head, Meditate on a clear lamp, focus your awareness. That will reduce sleep, it is said to eliminate delusion. It is the root of the practice of the supreme Dharma, A method to meditate on dependent arising as an antidote to delusion. Alas (545)! From countless eons ago, I have wandered in endless samsara, For so long, yet still without a sense of weariness. Countless billions of Buddhas of the past, During the duration of their teachings, I, with bad karma, have not been liberated, No matter what empowerments, transmissions, and instructions I receive, I am an evil one who cannot liberate my own mind-stream. Having entered the teachings and taken the three vows, I am a breaker of vows upon whom downfalls fall like rain. Although I have performed countless recitations and practices of deities, I have not seen even a glimpse of the deity's face, I am one with thick obscurations. From childhood until death, although I have consumed monastic property, I am still a greedy one who is never satisfied. Inside, I am filled with the five poisons of affliction, Outside, I am a hypocrite who wears elaborate Dharma robes. Not even knowing how to debate, explain, or write, I am still a conceited fool who desires to be learned. Unable to subdue even slightly the heads of the five poisons, I am a hypocrite who claims to be a good person. Myself (546) without knowing where I am going, Yet having the heart to guide many of the deceased. Myself without certainty of when I will die, Yet having the blessing to remove the obstacles of others. If I think well, my mind is very troubled, Thinking and beating my own chest, Thus I will destroy pride and arrogance. Alas! I have generated the mind of enlightenment, At that time, all the Buddhas
