Or thinking of where to go. These two are the main methods for clearing obstacles and enhancing merit. Therefore, in view, do not err, realize the true nature; in practice, do not be confused, unite the generation and completion stages; in conduct, do not be mixed up, be careful in taking and abandoning; the two fruits, supreme and common siddhis, first obtain the preliminary signs, and then gradually obtain them. This includes this life, the bardo, and the future. The first preliminary signs are experiences, dreams, and omens that occur frequently. According to the differences in faculties, superior, middling, and inferior, it is explained in detail in the tantras and sadhanas. Some people mock actual experiences, dreams, omens, etc., because they have not practiced them. If you practice them, how can there be no signs? It's like fire producing smoke, and water producing steam. If you don't understand the signs, you can't determine the boundaries, which is a fault. If the thought of presuming good signs arises, that is an obstacle and a demon. If you cling to permanence or nihilism, or are lazy and give up, that is an obstacle itself. Most ordinary beings with inferior faculties say that signs are appearances and disappearances in dreams, and are not clear. The discharge of impure pus and blood from the body, excretion, vomiting, bathing, wearing white clothes, flying, dawn, the rising of the sun and moon, etc., are said to be signs of the purification of sins and obscurations. Climbing to the top of a snow mountain, blowing a conch shell, playing music, finding crystal and vase-like implements, finding a garden full of flowers and scriptures, etc., are signs of the arising of realization and the accomplishment of the Dharma. Raising banners, sitting on a throne, gathering crowds, teaching the Dharma, living in mansions, good harvests, offering grains, offering or drinking alcohol and nectar, milk and yogurt, giving Dharma, finding treasures and jewels, etc., wearing good clothes, dreaming of increasing merit. Seeing one's own guru or previous accomplished beings, etc., yidams, dakinis, Dharma protectors, etc., of various kinds, seeing them face to face, hearing the Dharma, receiving empowerment, indicating symbols and Dharma, hearing the sound of mantras, letters appearing in the sky, rainbows and lights flashing, hearing beautiful music, indicating whatever is good or bad with symbols and words. Holding butter lamps, offering water, tormas, the tormas melting, nectar boiling or gushing out, some experiences feeling warm, receiving blessings, the sound of faith being strong, experiences being intense, appearances being noisy, involuntarily dancing, experiences and melodies arising naturally, feeling as if illusions have disappeared, and not even caring about oneself. External appearances disappear as unstable illusions, internal wisdom disappears as natural expressions, innate reverence manifests forms, and bestows siddhis. These are all good signs.

Signs of the arising of accomplishments: When there is ease without practice, When one strives in Dharma practice, diligence, and virtue, Many illnesses, disputes, and calamities arise. In dreams, the sun sets and darkness prevails, Dressed in black clothes, with iron filings in the mouth, Sinking in unclean mud, chased by dogs and wild beasts, Waterfalls, hail, and showers of arrows and stones fall. Barren women weep, beat their breasts, and remove ornaments, Even if inauspicious signs and miracles appear, Do not have wrong views about Dharma and practice. Just as when a vessel is washed, foul odors arise, Recognize it as a sign of purifying karmic obscurations. To fulfill broken vows, either engage in self-entry, Or rely on samadhi, receive empowerment, confess, and recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra. Prostrations, confession of faults, tsha-tshas, water offerings, Engage diligently in protection, reversal, and visualization. Even if good, constant, and certain signs clearly appear, If one clings to them, becomes joyful and arrogant, The supreme accomplishment will only be a common (39) one. Postponing common accomplishments, joy is a demon. The signs of practice are only small, What is there to be amazed about? What is there to wonder about smoke arising from a fire? Thinking thus, abandon all clinging, One can obtain accomplishments or through samadhi, Visualize receiving empowerment and accomplishments. Even if good signs appear, the heart is not happy inside and out, If one feels uneasy, it is being deceived by demons. Even if bad signs appear, the heart is happy and awareness is clear, This is called turning bad signs into good ones. If one cannot distinguish what is happening, Everything is like an illusion, unreal, like a dream. Rest in the state of equanimity and emptiness. All obstacles become accomplishments. Then, show aversion to sickness, evil spirits, enemies, and disputes, And lose interest in worldly affairs. If obstacles arise in practice and realization, It is a bad sign, leading to decline. Without great qualities of learning, contemplation, and meditation, One gathers many disciples, Everyone offers faith, respect, and wealth, And one becomes arrogant and proud. Jealousy arises towards those above, and hatred towards those below (40), One despises the small, and faith, respect, and pure perception diminish. Noise, pretense, and distraction increase, and practice decreases. If the five poisons increase, it is a demon of the gods. One's own appearances and the appearances of others are the same, Without selfish attachment and with great altruistic intention.
