The meaning of phaṭ phaṭ is to destroy or annihilate. As it says in the text itself: "Destroying malice and suffering, (43) summoning happiness. Phaṭ is the enemy that destroys, destroying even friends." The meaning of svāhā is, as it says in the text itself: "What is svāhā? Pacifying all sins, increasing the collection of virtues, stealing away all faults, the supreme destroyer of all suffering." My guru, the venerable sky yogi, said: "Recite kṣaiṃ kṣetra." Some other venerable ones say kṣi kṣetra, and some say khri kṣetra. In the earlier letters, there are also many different (44) appearances. However, the venerable Dharma King Tsongkhapa the Great said: "The pronunciation of kṣi and khri are slightly different, but there is no difference in meaning. Either of the two can be recited here, but do not recite kṣaiṃ." Therefore, I also think so. Some people say khre ta pa la, and writing it in letters is incorrect because the distinction between the main and the subordinate is not distinguished. The explanation of the meaning of the root mantra is as follows: oṃ śrī mahākālāya means "glorious great black one." śāsana means "including the teachings." upahari means "approaching accomplishment." (45) aṣa means "this." aṣci means "the latter." makālo means "in time." ayaṃ means "this and." idaṃ means "this." ratnatraya means "to the three jewels." apakari means "those who cause harm." yati means "if." pratijñā means "vow." smara sitada means "remember." idaṃ duṣṭaṃ means "this malicious one." kha kha means "eat eat." khāhi khāhi means "eat eat." māra māraya (46) means "kill kill." gṛhaṇa gṛhaṇa means "seize seize." bandha bandha means "bind bind." hana hana means "strike strike." daha daha means "burn burn." paca paca means "cook cook." dena me ke na mā

The meaning of 'Ra Ya' is, 'Please destroy (ego) like the sun.' Hūṃ Hūṃ Phaṭ Phaṭ Svāhā, as previously stated. The pauses in the mantra should also be done in this way. 'Ma ka lo a yaṃ, i da na ta ya tha,' and so on, and 'Mahākālo,' and 'Apa ka ri ri sha,' and 'Ratna trayāya' (Sanskrit Devanagari: रत्नत्रयाय, Sanskrit Romanization: ratnatrayāya, literal Chinese meaning: Three Jewels), saying two 'ya,' and 'Sma ra si dan tu,' and 'Apa ka re na,' etc. (page 47), know that these are very incorrect. If one makes great effort to recite an incorrect mantra, no matter how many times one recites it, it is impossible to produce the correct result. Therefore, one should first carefully correct the mantra. Homage! This is a short history of the lineage of gurus. Homage to the holy gurus! If asked, who composed this 'Legden' teaching? It was composed by Shavaripa. What place does it rely on? It relies on the actual form of this deity. For what important purpose was it made? Generally, for the benefit of all sentient beings, and especially for the protection of the Buddha's teachings. If we consider the history of the source of the lineage, the one called Guru Shavaripa, while meditating and residing in a hut in a charnel ground, heard a loud sound in the sky. When he looked up, he first saw one Jowo Khasarpāṇi, then he saw this Protector descend, and after that he saw one Vajravarahi, a Dakini of Khechara. Thus, he personally saw three deities. This teaching of Jowo was made at that time. Regarding these two deities, he said, 'Rāhula wants four deities, and Tara has only one teaching.' The venerable Shavaripa gave these two to Kyungpo Nangjor, and the venerable Maitripa (49). After that, he gave it to Guru Shangpa. He gave it to Senge Tonpa Könchok Khar. He gave it to Guru Kyer Gangpa. He gave it to Nyen Ton. He gave it to Chöje Tonpa. He gave it to the wise and accomplished Drubshang Ton. He gave it to Chöje Muchin. He gladly gave all the instructions of the glorious Protector, without omission, to me, the monk Namkhai Naljorpa. This matter is recorded in the handwritten notes made by my own guru, Namkhai Naljorpa. It differs slightly from other histories.
