With the three—practice, recitation, and activity—the uncommon instructions are clarified, expanded, without concealment, and completely gathered in one place. (446) Homage to the Lama, Protector, and all his retinue. Here, all three—practice, recitation, and activity—of the Protector depend on the torma. It is fulfilled with the commitment torma, and after offering the activity torma, it needs to be adjusted. Therefore, it is crucial for a Dharma protector to know the key points of the torma. Among these, the torma that is always placed in one's own practice room (447) or protector shrine, etc., is called the "permanent torma." After placing it for a year or a month, etc., it is offered on the twenty-ninth of the end of the year or month, or when one moves one's residence, etc., when one has the freedom to do so, and the torma is collected. This is called the "support torma," which is the same in meaning as what is now called the "holding torma" (448). The one that is newly made and blessed each evening and then offered is called the "continuous torma," and it is also called the "immediate torma." On the eighth, eleventh, or fifteenth of the waxing moon, or on the twenty-ninth of the waning moon, etc., a very fine new torma is arranged and offered extensively, and then sent away on that very evening. This is called the "time torma." Among these, for Vaishravana, it is very important to ascertain the eighth and fifteenth of the waxing moon. For the four-faced Protector, the eighth and eleventh of the waxing moon and the twenty-ninth of the waning moon are all equally important. However, for this Protector and the Gur Protector, etc., the twenty-ninth of the waning moon is particularly important (449). If one wishes to increase possessions by relying on this Protector, then one also makes time tormas on the eighth and fifteenth of the waxing moon. Because of the occurrence of harm from illness, enemies, and obstacles, etc., at the time when the harm occurs, a new torma is arranged and offered, and then sent away at that very time. This is called the "sudden entrusted torma." A very fine torma is arranged, and each one is offered in six portions, and blessed in six portions. Until a firm sign of the accomplishment of the activity appears, not even one portion is offered or dedicated, but it is left there. When offering six portions of the immediate torma each evening, one prays: "May this and this activity be accomplished! When that and that activity are accomplished, this great torma will also be offered!" After doing this, holding the torma as a pledge or as emptiness is called the "pledge torma," and the activit

If stable signs of accomplishment appear, then this great torma is offered as a token of gratitude. When offering to both the lord and consort protectors, each torma is newly arranged and offered at the end of each session, the father (protector)'s torma is offered at night, and the mother (protector)'s torma is offered in the morning, which is called "portion torma." This is the practice of the Gur protector and the four-faced protector. This protector does not require that. To generate the great torma as the deity, make six small tormas as a portion, eliminating obstacles (451) and requesting accomplishments, for three days, seven days, nine days, thirteen days, fifteen days, or twenty-one days, etc., which is called torma practice. For the great torma itself, practices such as making six small tormas as a portion should be done for as many days as appropriate. Finally, taking the great torma to the side of enemies and obstructors and performing the smashing torma ritual is called "great torma." If these distinctions are not understood in detail, then making torma is just a matter of liking it. In particular, in the practice of this protector, it is very important to understand in detail the distinctions and classifications of torma practice and great torma. If (452) these are not understood, and one simply says they are doing torma practice, they dedicate the torma once a day with an ordinary torma ritual, reciting whatever praises they know, and can do nothing else. In the end, they take back the torma that is supposed to bring accomplishments and smash it, etc., which will certainly lead to great mistakes. One must carefully consider these mistakes. In this way, wanting to achieve accomplishments and subdue enemies and obstructors is like wanting to obtain a rabbit's horn, just a waste of effort. Regarding permanent torma and pledged torma, they are also often confused due to errors in the text. Nowadays, it seems that most people have no knowledge of the classifications of torma. (453) The so-called permanent torma is made by using any new or old butter, carefully filtering it, removing impurities, and heating it thoroughly until melted. Add strong alcohol, butter, nectar pills, or about a quarter of butter, as well as various bloods such as knife blood. Add powders of the five medicines, five grains, and various jewels. From these ingredients, add roasted black barley flour without husks or stones, and thoroughly mixed tsampa, not too thick, to make the tor
