Sending at night. Previously, Yum's sending offerings in the morning was called "Thun Torma," which is the oral instruction tradition of Gurmgon and the Four-Faced Protector. But this Protector (394) does not require that. When a large torma is visualized as a deity, six small tormas are placed, eliminating obstacles and requesting accomplishments, for three, seven, nine, ten, fifteen, or twenty-one days, etc. This is called "Torma Sadhana." The practice of placing six small tormas, etc., on the large torma itself should be done for any number of days. Finally, taking the large torma itself to the side of enemies and obstacles and striking it is called the "Great Torma" of this tradition. If these distinctions are not understood in detail, one will only enjoy making tormas, and there will be nothing special. In particular, according to the tradition of this Protector (395), it is very important to understand the distinctions between Torma Sadhana and Great Torma in detail. If you don't understand it, you say you are doing Torma Sadhana, and then you offer a little more of the ordinary torma every day, like praising it, and you can't do anything else. In the end, you have to take the torma that you are going to receive as an accomplishment and take it back to strike it, etc., and you have to be mentally prepared for that. In such a case, obtaining accomplishments and overcoming enemies and obstacles is like hoping to keep out the cold with a garment made of turtle hair. Therefore, it is very important to know the difference between Torma Sadhana and Great Torma (396). That is, Torma Sadhana is mainly done for the purpose of achieving accomplishments and eliminating obstacles, while Great Torma is done for the purpose of performing wrathful actions against enemies and obstacles, reversing curses and black magic, and cutting off severe epidemics, etc. In short, Torma Sadhana is mainly done for pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and eliminating obstacles, and Great Torma is mainly done for wrathful actions other than that. Because there are such different needs, the way tormas are arranged is different, the visualization of giving is different, the mantras recited are different, the way of performing activities is different, and finally (397) the way of sending is different. First, regarding the way to do Torma Sadhana, first decorate the residence, etc., and the way to arrange the offering tormas. Then, how to perform the ritual, offer the torma, and entrust the activities, and finally, after offering the torma.

How to perform the subsequent rituals. First, the place should be clean and secluded, and the boundaries should be strictly sealed. Beforehand, clean and wipe thoroughly. Arrange as many offerings as possible, such as substitute images and guru images. On the ground that has been smeared with good fragrances, draw a circle one cubit in diameter, and inside it draw a second circle (398), encircling it. Inside that, draw a dark blue triangle with the tip pointing outwards, with a fire mountain, and in the center place a hooked knife with a dark blue Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉字字面意思:吽) on the handle. Outside the circle, draw a square, representing the colors of the directions. Outside that, draw a great cool charnel ground with all its characteristics. The circle is green, and its circumference is blue. Behind it, spread out a painted image of the Protector looking straight ahead. The vessel for the torma, such as a copper basin, etc., should be free of cracks, holes, etc., and very clean. Inside it, place a carefully measured food offering (399) made of black barley, no smaller than one cubit, surrounded by one hundred and eight mustard seeds, the number complete, and filling it without overflowing the vessel. If the main purpose is to remove obstacles, the mustard seeds should face outwards. If you are specifically seeking to increase enjoyment, life, and subjugate beings, and you are performing the torma for that purpose, the mustard seeds should face inwards and the bottom should be rounded. It is important to mix the essence pills dissolved in alcohol into the torma. For torma rituals that are mainly for removing obstacles, etc., also attach a short knife (400) with a mantra as a secret support to the arrow banner of the inner support, and place it on top of the mandala on top of the large torma stand. On the right side of it, place the torma of the yidam, and on the left side, the torma of the goddess. Below that, the Trakshad torma. Below the yidam, the Jina Mitra torma. Behind the mandala, the Ḍākki Rāja torma. In front, the Kshetrapāla torma. In addition, on the edges of the left and right sides, also arrange the general torma for the dakinis and the torma for the local deities. Do not make tormas for other Dharma protectors, and it is not good to offer tormas to many other Dharma protectors of different kinds during the torma ritual. The goddess (401) torma should be a single-faced, two-handed torma, one-faced, triangular heart.
