The common preliminaries and the uncommon (535) preliminaries are two. The common preliminaries are refuge and bodhicitta. The uncommon preliminary is purifying A (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) and emptiness. The first is: In the expanse of the sky in front, on a vast precious throne supported by eight great lions, on a seat of various lotuses, sun, and moon, the essence is the kind root guru, the form is Vajra (536) Holder, body blue in color, one face and two hands, holding a vajra and bell crossed at the heart, legs in vajra posture. Adorned with marks and signs on the body, dressed in silk garments and adorned with jewels, think of him with a smile of delight on his face towards me. To this, I and all sentient beings of the six realms are willing to take refuge, entrusting ourselves with faith, thinking that whatever happiness or suffering occurs, the guru knows. All sentient beings equal to the sky take refuge in the precious guru, the embodiment of all refuges. Recite this seven times or as appropriate. The guru Vajradhara in front melts into light and dissolves into oneself. The guru's mind and (537) one's own mind become inseparable, like water poured into water, and remain in that state of amazement. The generation of bodhicitta is: All sentient beings equal to the sky have not been my kind parents. Thinking of placing these on the state of union, the great Vajradhara. Recite from the mouth: For the benefit of all sentient beings, may I attain the state of union, the great Vajradhara. Therefore, I shall practice the profound path of the Six Dharmas of Niguma. Recite this about three times. The second uncommon preliminary is: Visualize the kind root guru on the crown of your head, radiant with light, with a (538) delightful smile on his face towards me. Recite from the mouth: Guru Rinpoche, the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, for the benefit of all sentient beings, please pacify all my illnesses and evil spirits. Please purify all my sins and obscurations. Please cause special samadhi to arise in my mindstream. After praying like this, the guru dissolves into light and merges into oneself. Having purified the head, which is the nature of dullness, the skull becomes a rainbow of white light.

In the middle of that tent-like structure, visualize a white triangular Dharma source, its base thin, piercing the throat, its apex broad and pointing upwards, one corner pointing towards the treasure vase, and the other two corners pointing towards the left and right behind the ears. In the middle of that, visualize (539) a white "Ah" (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a, literal Chinese meaning: Ah) radiating light, half appearing above the Dharma source and half submerged within it, floating unsupported to that extent. Focus your mind and meditate as much as you can. Then, from that white "Ah" (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a, literal Chinese meaning: Ah) letter, a stream of white nectar flows. The entire Dharma source is filled, and the entire body, inside and out, is filled. All sins and obscurations are completely expelled, imagine them emerging in the form of black smoke and soot, being driven out from the nine orifices and pores. Furthermore, imagine that the nectar spreads like butter on the outside of the body, washing it clean and flowing far away underground. Visualize your own body as white and clear, like a white rainbow, and remain in that state of equipoise for a while. The great bliss wheel, the share of the moon. (540) From the unborn, sacred syllable, the nectar of wisdom constantly descends, washing away all stains of obscuration. In general, there are six main practices: the path of means, bliss-warmth self-ignites; the illusory body, attachment and aversion self-liberate; dreams, inherent delusion self-purifies; clear light, inherent ignorance self-awakens; transference of consciousness, enlightenment without meditation; bardo, the victorious Sambhogakaya. First, the path of means has three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding practice. The preliminary practice is the body posture, the empty room of fire: On your crown, visualize the root guru Vajradhara, his body white in color, the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, the precious guru. For the benefit of all sentient beings, please grant that a special samadhi of (541) bliss-warmth arises in my body! Please grant that a special samadhi of bliss and emptiness arises in my mind! The guru dissolves into light and merges into oneself. Visualize yourself as the venerable Vajrayogini, her body red in color, with one face and two arms, the right hand holding a curved knife, and the left hand holding a skull cup filled with blood at her heart. Her right leg is extended, and her left leg is slightly bent, pressing on the heart of a white corpse, its head facing to the right. She wears a crown of five dry skulls, a necklace of fifty wet human heads, and is adorned with the five bone ornaments. Visualize the inside of her body as completely empty. Visualize four red, hot balls of fire, about the size of bird's eggs, located at the back (542) and front, directly in line with the navel, and at the locations of the two kidneys. Meditate on these.
