To the perfect Lama who has accomplished both aims, I prostrate with body, speech, and mind, and write down these instructions. Among these, the great Vajradhara, the Sixth, spoke to the wisdom Ḍākiṇī Niguma; these extraordinary instructions have four parts: Based on appearances, transforming the Lama into the path (395). Based on appearances, transforming the Yidam into the path. Based on appearances, transforming illusion into the path. Based on transforming appearances into the path, the fruit of spontaneous accomplishment arises naturally. From the Tantra of the Holy Intentions: Appearances, Lama, and Yidam, Transform illusion into the path. In this life, manifest the three bodies, And the two aims will be perfectly fulfilled. So it is said. Firstly (396), transforming appearances into the Lama's path has three aspects: Based on appearances, transforming the Lama into the path. Based on the Lama, transforming devotion into the path. Based on devotion, transforming the three bodies into the path. Firstly: With bodhicitta preceding, strongly contemplate impermanence of death and the faults of samsara. Then, visualizing oneself as the Yidam, on a lotus and moon seat on one's crown, visualize the root Lama. In front, visualize all sentient beings, primarily those who cause harm and the local deities. Pray to the precious Lama, "For the sake of all sentient beings, please abandon self-grasping!" "May the meaningless arise in the lineage... May the illusory body and dreams be perfected... May the clear light Mahamudra arise in the lineage..." Pray three times (397) until devotion arises. Then, generate uncommon devotion to the Lama, and whatever form one sees, contemplate, "This is my holy Lama!" Especially, contemplate as the Lama those objects that give rise to attachment and aversion, such as beautiful or ugly forms. Secondly: Regarding contemplating all appearances as the Lama, think, "My holy Lama has rescued me from the ocean of suffering of samsara, And in this very life, has placed me on the supreme Buddha's state of liberation. How great is this kindness!" With pure devotion, single-mindedly make prostrations and offerings. Thirdly: When uncommon devotion to the Lama has arisen, all appearances (398) arise clearly, without thought, as great bliss. The clear appearance of various forms is the Nirmāṇakāya, clear yet without thought is the Dharmakāya, clear and

The Sambhogakaya of bliss in between the absence. These three are inseparable, the body of great bliss. In the Holy Intentions Tantra, it says: Manifestations of various kinds are the Nirmanakaya. Clear and without conceptualization is the Dharmakaya. The bliss in between is the perfect enjoyment. Inseparably, great bliss arises spontaneously. Thus it is said. Secondly, there are three ways to take appearances as the path of the deity: Relying on appearances to take the deity as the path. Relying on various sounds to take mantra as the path. Relying on thoughts and concepts to take the three poisons as the path. Firstly, one's own body is visualized as the deity's body, and one meditates on the appearance without inherent existence, making it somewhat stable. (399) Then, one becomes deluded by clinging to the beauty and ugliness of forms, holding onto various attachments and aversions. Now, one should think that everything that appears as form should be known as the deity. Therefore, one meditates on everything that appears as form as the deity's body, meditating on the appearance without inherent existence. Thus, when the body and all appearances are meditated upon as the deity, the part that is appearance or clarity is the generation stage. The part that is emptiness or without inherent existence is the completion stage. The inseparability of these two by nature is the union of the generation and completion stages. Secondly, after meditating oneself as the deity and reciting mantras, and meditating on everything that appears as form as the deity, one also meditates on the sound of the mantra as making a "di-ri-ri" sound. The sound (400) that arises should also be known as the mantra. The mantra should be known as loud emptiness. In that, the essence of knowing the sound that arises as the mantra is emptiness, which is the Dharmadhatu. The clarity of the sound is wisdom. The inseparability of Dharmadhatu and wisdom is the recitation of Suchness. In the Authentic Mantra Tantra, it says: If one does not know the sound that arises as the mantra, even if one meditates for eons, it will be meaningless. The inseparability of Dharmadhatu and wisdom, with this recitation, one will become enlightened in this life. Thus it is said. Thirdly, the eighty-four thousand afflictions are gathered into the three poisons. One should know that the three poisons arise and dissolve on their own. That is, desire does not cease but arises on its own. Without abandoning it, knowing it as the Sambhogakaya of great bliss, it dissolves on its own. Anger (382) (401) does not cease but arises on its own. Without abandoning it, knowing it as the clear and pure Nirmanakaya, it dissolves on its own. Ignorance does not cease but arises on its own. Without abandoning it, knowing it as the non-conceptual Dharmakaya, it dissolves on its own. In the Holy Intentions Tantra, it says: The three poisons do not cease but arise on their own.
