That. For example, just like holding the reins of a horse rider, there is no need to hold the horse rider. Some say, grasping the emptiness of the throat, that obstacle is great, so inhale a gentle long breath and exhale phlegm and turbidity below the navel. The so-called clear light deity, clear light, is not like that illuminated by the five sense doors (395). Here, it refers to the mind's own clear light being bright. Generally, it runs in the aftermath of meditative equipoise. The aftermath of the day is at night. That running in the bardo is the nature of reality. Now, because of being accustomed to that clear light, at the time of death, the two unwavering wheels gather and enter the central channel. In the first bardo, the nature of reality, empty of grasping and being grasped, like space, will appear to all sentient beings, that is the mother clear light. Now, recognizing one's own nature and being accustomed to it, this is the clear light. Those two, like water and milk not mixing, before mixing, recognize it like meeting a familiar person. When water and milk merge into one, one will attain the stability of the self-benefiting dharmakaya. Merely recognizing is not enough, one needs the ability to abide. Regarding the duration of abiding, some in the completion stage say: (396) "Ten subtle thoughts are the time of conceptualization, abiding will exhaust existence." Although it is said like this, Rinpoche says that one must arise from the unborn state into the unobstructed enjoyment complete sambhogakaya pure illusory body. Generally, there are also two types of clear light, light sleep and deep sleep. The deep one is when, in clear light, one connects with the three of appearance, increase, and attainment and falls asleep, the breath enters the central channel, the consciousness abides in the heart, and the time when the coming and going of conceptual thoughts ceases occurs. At that time, if one is not obscured by sleep and recognizes one's own nature in the absence of an object, it is the deep clear light. The shallow one is as Arya Deva's Compendium of Conduct says: "When the earth becomes heavy, the traveler himself travels, by the power of wind, dreams will arise." Therefore, the breath and mind are unable to abide in the heart, and enter from the two channels, left and right, the con-(397)sciousness abides in the throat, at that time dreams will arise. There, if one is not obscured by dream sleep and recognizes one's own nature in the absence of an object, it is the shallow clear light. Some think that there is only one clear light, and there should not be shallow and deep divisions. But in the Six Dharmas of Naropa, the way to hold the clear light of light and deep sleep is explained. Still others think that deep sleep is that of shallow conceptualization.

There is a desire for the luminosity of experience, but that is not certain. Is consciousness also non-conceptual during light sleep? The master said that recognizing one's own nature in the absence of objects, in a state of non-attachment, is realization. Such a state of non-conceptualization and non-attachment exists in the five sense consciousnesses. Not recognizing that is called ignorance. Some consider ignorance and delusion to be indistinguishable, and many holders of the Vinaya and Tantras also do not differentiate them (398). The Rinpoche distinguishes them: not recognizing one's own nature in the absence of objects is ignorance, recognizing objects is delusion. The master's teachings also say that even if the two are indistinguishable, when the syllable "Hum" (ཧཾ,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马拟音:haṃ,literal meaning: Hum) enters the crown chakra, a white path appears, thereby pacifying the conceptual thoughts arising from hatred. When the two gather in the heart, a thick blackness arises, and there delusion ceases. After those three are purified, the luminosity of the Dharmata Mother, empty of grasping and being grasped, arises from the gathering of "Ah Hum" (ཨ་ཧཾ,梵文天城体:अहं,梵文罗马拟音:ahaṃ,literal meaning: Ah Hum). Merely not recognizing that own nature, it abides in the nature of ignorance. There, mental conceptual thoughts arise, and thus one wanders in samsara. Therefore, when your existence and non-existence cease, everything appears in the luminosity of the Dharmata Mother. After that, samsara must be cut off. In the section on "Union," the basis, path, and result all exist in the three kayas (399), so they must not be confused. The three kayas of the basis are: from the aspect of the nature of consciousness appearing clearly, it is the Nirmanakaya; the aspect of the nature of emptiness is the Dharmakaya; the inseparability of the two is the nature of the Sambhogakaya. These three pervade sentient beings. The path is the basis, distinguished by recognizing one's own nature. The result is that the adventitious stains of the path period are self-purified, not confused by delusion, and stability is attained. Some say, "The basis is the path." Nowadays, some think that it is only emptiness, so there is no need for practice, abandoning the effort of the path, thereby killing the excellent means. This is like practicing the emptiness of annihilationism. If the situation is good, it will become the cessation of the Shravakas; if the situation is bad, it will become the twelve sources; if it is not even that, it is said that one will fall into the three lower realms. Some say (400), with mindfulness, what need is there for grasping and practice? Because there is nothing to practice, practicing is wrong. This is a misunderstanding. Maitripa's disciple, named Siri Singha, had fifty male and female yogis.
