Therefore, the fundamental clear and empty awareness is called the Alaya. If you realize it, you become a Buddha; if you don't realize it, you are in Samsara. Even if you realize Buddhahood, there is nothing better than this clear and empty awareness; even when you have not realized it, its nature is not stained by defilements, so it is said. It is also called the inseparability of Samsara and Nirvana. From the perspective of not recognizing the fundamental ignorance (378), not recognizing it is Samsara, from the perspective of being empty in itself is Nirvana. As it says in the root tantra: "This is called Samsara." The path is to abide in this way, and after recognizing one's own nature, one should not abandon Samsara and abide in it, and without achieving Nirvana, it is spontaneously accomplished, and one should maintain it without distraction. The result is that the Buddha is placed on the right, and hell is placed on the left, but there is no acceptance or rejection or choice for these two. Awareness is called immaculate, and in the past, Dromtönpa told the story in front of the holy ones. It is said that repentance is supreme, like wiping dust off a conch shell, or lighting a lamp in an empty room. In order to know the equality of all times, it is said: The essence is union, union is beyond thought, and beyond thought is equality without mental fabrication. Then, before "knowing the place and the constant cutting" (379), placing it as before, without relying on the three causes and conditions of manifestation, large, medium, and small, the characteristics are nakedly self-evident. Looking at it, one is separated from all clinging to self-nature, and although there is no self-nature, it is clear, and the essence is complete union. If you recognize it in this way, all mistakes will be naturally cut off, that is, form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. In this way, one is liberated from permanence and annihilation. Some people add this to the sign, and display it on it, saying that all dharmas are emptiness, and the sign or bindu is emptiness. There is no action. Although it is said that the sign is guided without error in all Samsara, here it is said that one needs a path that does not rely on the constant and is not mistaken. If you take the non-existent as the mind, then you are mistaken. There is a mistake between non-existence and emptiness. After cutting off the superimposition on awareness, expanding on the three aspects of place, change, and appearance (380), looking at mountains, walls, houses, etc., the essence, nature, and characteristics are all upright, although this is meditation, but this is not meditation, there is no action. Even if you meditate on appearance, the essence, nature, and characteristics are complete, and even if you meditate on emptiness, it is complete, so whatever

Manifest, manifest. All remembrance is meditation. A yogi who has realized this, when he puts in sugar cubes, etc., and watches it like watching a show, the appearance of form is empty, the sound is empty, the smell is empty, the touch is empty. When some of Ko Drakpa's great disciples asked him which of the four instructions he practiced, he said, "Or is that person no longer in this world?" He said, "Is it this rustling sound? Or the sound of a dog barking?" The so-called "non-conceptual mindfulness" requires a single, undistracted mindfulness for such practice. (381) It is useless to entrust meditation to a drunkard. Shavaripa said, "Mindfulness is continuous, without mindfulness." Nagarjuna said, "With the empowering realization of mindfulness, the Sugata, as the only path to enter, is closely followed, and then diligently guarded, because the loss of mindfulness destroys all dharmas." Shantideva said, "Mindfulness and awareness, even if life is at stake, must be guarded." I choose to say this. So it is said. Initially, mindfulness is a factor of perfect enlightenment, and from the second stage to the stage of Buddhahood, there is also correct mindfulness. Dakpo said that without meditation, there is no correct mindfulness, but he did not say that it can be attained without meditation. Although this is not in accordance with the sutras and tantras, Dakpo's (382) words must be taken as authoritative. The so-called "cessation of mindfulness" refers to the cessation of the clinging mindfulness of the initial practitioner. Mindfulness also has no object to recognize itself. No matter what is needed, just being without clinging, the Mahamudra will not change. This is also present in the alaya consciousness and the five sense consciousnesses. The sutra says, "The mind is universally neutral, the afflicted one is unwholesome, the mind changes in both ways, the five sense consciousnesses are neutral." So it is said. The so-called "white single-pointedness" means that when one realizes this, all the dharmas of the white aspect are perfected here. The shamatha and vipashyana needed by a great meditator are complete. There are two types of shamatha and vipashyana: those that arise from hearing and those that arise from pith instructions. Those that arise from hearing are the recollection of the meaning of the twelve sections of scripture. Seeing its meaning. Those that arise from pith instructions are the mind (383) abiding within is shamatha. Its meaning.
