Who is it? Therefore, one must rely on the 'Fifty Verses on the Guru' as a witness and examine the connection (346). It says in that very text, 'The guru and the disciple, the two.' Therefore, the meaning of these has been practiced by previous accomplished ones. Naropa said, 'For twelve years with Tilopa, having endured twelve hardships that brought him to the brink of death, until then, there were no ordinary conversations, other than 'Naro, the vegetables are delicious.'' He also said that he always met with Tara and the sacred Dharma, and even after establishing the Prajnaparamita through seven levels over seven years, he did not speak. That too is dependent arising, although it is not always named, that is its meaning. For the longest time in Tibet, the stories of Gayadhara and Drogmi are told. That is also from the perspective of characteristics, there are two aspects: negation and affirmation. In terms of negation, mostly or half abandoned; in terms of affirmation, mostly or half complete, relying on what Kyungpo Naljor said. In the 'Heap of Jewels Sutra' (347), Maitreya asked, 'What kind of virtuous friend should one rely on?' The Buddha replied, 'Whatever Dharma is taught, all of it is taught based solely on the truth of the ultimate reality of the Dharmadhatu. To make it clear is that the virtuous friend leads one straight without deviating from the path.' Abhayasa said, 'From the teacher understanding the disciple's thoughts.' Therefore, one needs to have clairvoyance, or even if not, the teacher can understand the disciple's disposition through his own experience, and thus guide them according to their individual needs. Otherwise, a guru without experience is like a guide who does not know the way, which will lead to faults. Saraha said, 'One lamp illuminates two places,' etc., purely saying, 'Through realization, one liberates oneself (348), through compassion, one ripens others, being skilled in the means of dependent arising, and the disciples are ready.' He also said that. Also, he and Yang Gonpa both said that they work for the benefit of beings from one taste. Therefore, thoughts such as being happy when one's own disciple achieves success do not arise. Everything proceeds in an equal manner, so there are none of these. Mostly, it is in accordance with the teachings of 'meaningless and meaningful.' In general, rely on one Rinpoche who acts according to the Dharma. If not, one needs someone who is complete in view, meditation, and conduct. Even if the view is as high as the sky, without meditation, experience will not arise, and one will lose one's way. If meditation is as stable as a mountain

Even if there is something like a kingdom (view), if there is no view, the true nature will not naturally appear, and there will be no progress in practice. Even if one says that one has both of these (view and practice), (349) if there is only superficial behavior, there will be no result other than deceiving oneself and others. Therefore, one must rely on these three steadfastly, like hands and eyes, or like feet and eyes. Do not infer from external signs afterwards. Even if the lama becomes a prostitute, one should follow closely like felt; even if the yogi becomes a dog, one should practice inseparable like dog feces. Saraha said: Like a young child, do not abandon the jewel on the crown of your head. Some disciples asked Götsangpa: If one develops devotion to a lama who does not possess qualities, will blessings arise or not? He remained silent for a moment and said: Blessings will not arise as they are, but later it may become a cause for meeting a good teacher. Rinpoche mainly emphasized devotion, so he said that much (350). Otherwise, it will not become a cause for meeting a good teacher. If you do that, the result will be reversed. If you rely on false people, you will be deceived when you need them. In the Sutra of the Treasury of the Buddha it is said: The enemy of the world only takes life, causing one body to be exhausted in vain. If an ignorant person teaches the Dharma, he will be reborn in hell for eighty-four thousand kalpas. This is great sorrow. Do not engage in negation and affirmation, do not gather them into the mind, otherwise cracks will appear. Furthermore, if the target seems to disappear, or becomes low, or becomes dark, or becomes gray, this is a sign of the mind abiding. Again, adjust the posture of the body, change the gaze, and remain without artifice. If you feel that there are more thoughts than before, like water flowing from a steep mountainside, or sloping downwards (351), or swaying, or not abiding at all, do not consider it a fault. Do not follow the thoughts, just grasp them with mindfulness. Because our mind only has space to accommodate thoughts, before the mind did not abide, nor was it clear, so it could not grasp the thoughts. Now it is slightly clearer, and able to grasp the thoughts, so it seems like there are many thoughts. In reality, the thoughts have not increased. This is a sign of the mind abiding and being clear, so relax and let go. So-called eating nutritious food means abiding in the perfection of the result by relying on the seven foods of meditation.
