It is said that blessings arise. Sometimes abandoning the lama, sometimes engaging in wrong views, it is not said that there are blessings. Buddha Tönpa said: We, with the signs of our own uncleared sins and obscurations, cannot regard the lama as a faultless, virtuous being. And first, look for the faults mentioned in the scriptures. (320) If you don't find them, then look for the faults mentioned in the world, it is said in detail. Regarding these matters, Rinpoche Sangye Tönpa said: Please let the teacher do it once. When asked, "I won't go," he said, "Do whatever happens." There, to achieve enlightenment in one lifetime and one body, one needs devotion to the lama. One needs a devotion that is not lost in familiarity. If familiarity is lost, like turning the arrow shaft and the spearhead upside down, blessings will not arise. Regarding these ways of relying on the lama, some Nyingma tantras say: Offer all things excellently, Restrain body, speech, and actions excellently, Neither too close nor too far. When it was said that the lama is like fire, Sangye Tönpa was pleased. The teacher said: That's good. Dharma Lord Uripa also said the same thing: When he (321) was doing a solitary retreat, the great ones requested to grant audiences and activities for the benefit of others. He said, "You don't understand," and did not grant it. They requested again and again. He said, "If I do that, it will be harmful to you." There, they requested, "If your lama does not break his vows and benefits beings, not only will it not harm us, but many beings will be ripened and liberated." He said, "By doing this kind of retreat, not meeting with you is a kindness to you. Now, just seeing my face makes you shed tears, and this is because I have made Dharma and audiences rare. If I didn't do that, but acted loosely, stretching my legs and sitting with you, the devotion would be very great, but it would turn into turning the arrow shaft and the spearhead (322) upside down." Furthermore, Sangye Nyentön said: At that time, Kyura Rinpoche, Zhang Tsalpa, Düsum Khyenpa Doha Pa, Tsangpa Gya, Sakya Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen, and other great and good ones were relied upon, and they pleased the lamas and requested the complete instructions. The monks of those lamas, from their own traditions

Even so, even with the help of Dharma protectors, everyone agrees that to attain Buddhahood in one lifetime and one body, one must rely on the devotion to the guru. Therefore, this Dharma seems to have a profound key point. In particular, the venerable great being relied on masters for twelve years, and when he finally left, he made three requests: that he be taken care of with compassion at all times and in all circumstances; that he be granted a blessing now; and that he be granted a teaching. Therefore, regarding the teachings (323), although we Sakyapas have many Dharmas, we take the essence of the three tantras as the core. Among them, first, when practicing, one must rely on the key instructions. Among them, there are nine stages of the path, which are taught as three paths: profound, medium, and shallow; and three paths: extensive, medium, and concise. Among the three paths of profound, medium, and shallow, the profound path is devotion to the guru, the medium path is vows and precepts, and the shallow path is the cessation of individually identifying the body, and the path of the twelve links of dependent origination. Among them, the path of Birwapa relies on the profound devotion to the guru. Among them, the statements of visualizing the guru as the Dharmakaya, visualizing as the Nirmanakaya, etc., are just poetry. Therefore, visualize this old man with white hair on your head, and then say to the old lay practitioner Drakpa Gyaltsen: Whether I make you high or low, happy (324) or suffering, you know it yourself, and then pray. I say that I have raised the practice to a qualified level, so I will definitely not deceive you. Zhang Tsalpa also said the same. Rinpoche said: The guru is also such a person, there must be someone who says, "I will not deceive you." He also told the story of Tsangpa Gyabur visiting him when he was living in Klongdo. Rinpoche said: Any Dharma that is in accordance with all Dharmas is the same. Now some people say that our Dharma is different from others and has a profound point. But to make it profound, it is difficult to judge whether it is profound or not. For example, a person whose body is human but whose head is a donkey is different from others, but that will not produce any value. If, on the basis of everything being the same in appearance, there appears a person with a beautiful face and intelligence, that is excellent. Similarly (325), there is no need to like a Dharma that is not in accordance with all other Dharmas. First, it was spoken by the Buddha, in the middle it was translated by Lotsawa, and written by the treatise writers.
