My upward training is: if sinking, it is a lion; my downward training is: if soaring, it is gathering, like dispelling obstacles. Fourth, various mantras. Sutras (281) various. Training in the four modes of conduct is: The measure of preliminaries: without attending to the uncorrected, ordinary consciousness, let it arise naturally. The measure of relying on that: it is not stolen by the activities of body and speech. Observing whether it is stable or not, one trains in various mantras, etc. That is, as before, when co-emerging in non-conceptuality, one treats the recitation of mantras, etc., with slight importance. If that previous virtuous practice is not lost, it is stable. If it is lost, then as before, starting from refuge, one rests in one's natural state, practicing alternately, meditating until it becomes stable. These are training in what has characteristics. Second, training in what has no characteristics is: from taking refuge until resting in the three natural states, as before. In this empty space in front of consciousness (282), without looking outward at objects, without looking inward at awareness, rest in no support, no grasping. Previously there was some support and grasping, here it goes even wider. Meditation is also comfortable. Resting in this way, either co-emergent non-conceptuality or relaxed non-grasping arises. The two are the same. Thus meditating, sometimes when it is good and stable, sometimes, turning the face inward and abiding, in that state, look at mind with mind, observing whether there is a shape, a color, a place, a time, or whether it is established as a thing. Observe whether it is empty of anything, or whether there is a clear, bright, unreal thing. Observe, analyze, destroy. If you feel that a thing is established, then relax and rest on that. If not, then relax and rest in the state of self-nature, self-existing. The reason for this is that all appearances are one's own mind (283), as is taught in many sutras, tantras, treatises, and instructions. Thus generate decisive certainty. Now, in order to ascertain that, one must look at oneself, like identifying a thief. In general, one must also meditate, but especially one must meet the face of reality, words and understanding are useless, one must generate some experience in one's own continuum. Niguma emphasizes the preliminary, Maitripa emphasizes the main practice, Sukama emphasizes the subsequent practice, which is what should be done. Therefore, the preliminary of this system must arise in oneself, without arising, one cannot recognize it.

Oh! Even if taught, it cannot be understood, just like pottery doesn't need to be in a warm place. The embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, the source of all happiness in samsara and nirvana, the excellent spiritual friend (284) endowed with wisdom, realization, and compassion, I respectfully prostrate at the feet of the realized lama. Preliminary practice. Namo Guru. The main practice involves introducing the key points as a method of sealing the body with vajra, and there are two aspects to the instruction that naturally liberates the four faults: praying to prevent obstacles from arising, and the actual introduction. First, with the tsok and torma offerings preceding, within the triangular fire mandala, the blazing flames are vast and immeasurable, filling three thousand worlds. Within it, in the lotus with a thousand branches, at the center of the eight or sixteen-petaled lotus, visualize the six-armed Wisdom Protector, fulfilling the hopes of beings in accordance with the Dharma. Above that, visualize the Wisdom Dakini, her body red with a purplish hue, adorned with bone ornaments, her dance alluring, her eyes (285) gazing into the sky. Visualize her surrounded by the root and lineage lamas, Buddhas, and immeasurable Bodhisattvas. Offer a golden mandala as the basis for visualization, offering body, possessions, and everything, and pray: I take refuge in the Buddhas residing in the ten directions! I take refuge in the Dharma! I take refuge in the Sangha! I take refuge in the lamas and the mandala of the yidam deities! I prostrate and take refuge in the retinue of the six-armed Wisdom Protector! I pray that the root and lineage lamas bless me to realize the Mahamudra! I pray that the Dharma protectors who uphold the Dharma bless me so that there are no outer or inner obstacles in my Dharma practice, and that no obstacles arise. Pray like this three times. (286) Then, enjoy the tsok offering. Second, the actual introduction is: As before, on top of the three kayas of self-nature, relax, effortlessly let go, and abide in your own nature. All past thoughts naturally cease, future thoughts are cut off from arising, and present thoughts disappear without significance. The mind is without thought like a stream of water cut off, or stunned in non-grasping. As before, focus more on its essence.
