Now, let it be left without effort. Speech, naturally, is separated from all expression, and without even thinking about the mere coming and going of breath (278), let speech be left without effort. The mind, naturally, should be separated from the thoughts of the three times: do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, and in the present, do not be distracted. Keep the eyes like those of an elephant, without straying from the natural state. From the mouth of the wisdom dakini, speak as if a god has arisen with desire. The mind should be separated from the thoughts of wanting to meditate, and without even thinking, "I am meditating on the preliminaries," relax in a state of no support and no grasping, and rest naturally. By resting in this way, the thoughts of the past will cease, the potential for future arising will be cut off, and the present will become tasteless and empty, so that a clear and ungrasping non-conceptual wisdom will arise. For the time being, that is what is to be meditated on, so relax and rest on that. If something arises, let it shatter, and rest without losing mindfulness (279). Then, meditate on the guru yoga and combine the two into one, and experience it. There are four ways to train in this. First, training in subtle and coarse, of which training in the subtle is: look at a subtle object in front of you, and do not engage in thoughts of size, good or bad, etc. Do not allow yourself to be distracted, but simply let the appearance not cease and the grasping not arise. Do not hold on tightly as if pressing down on a small insect, but simply make it a support for non-distraction. Do not be fixated on the object or hold on to it intentionally, but let it go and do not rely on anything. By resting in this way, wisdom will either merge into non-conceptuality, or shatter into non-grasping, or effortlessly relax. Relax and rest on that (280). If it lasts for a long time, you will be troubled by the faults of meditation, so rest for a while. Then, pray and alternate with meditative equipoise. At these times, it may seem that more thoughts arise than before, but this is because the experience of wavering is the beginning of stability. So do not abandon it, and do not follow it, but simply recognize it. Whatever thought arises, relax it on its own ground, and the thought will exhaust its strength and merge into non-conceptuality. Similarly, for coarse objects, and second, training in near and far objects, and third, training in the three directions of up, down, and straight, the method is the same. However,
