One should not be distracted at all times. As stated in the Compendium, "Walking, standing, sleeping, and sitting, be fully endowed with mindfulness." The intermediate practitioner should remember to generate Bodhicitta every twenty-one steps. The least practitioner should generate Bodhicitta three times during the day and three times during the night. As stated in the Vajra Peak Sutra, "Every day, in six periods, constantly give the four kinds of generosity." And in the Sutra it says, "Three times during the day and three times during the night, in six periods, without distraction, generate Bodhicitta and work for the benefit of others." Third is increasing: One should generate Bodhicitta with the thought that until the ocean of Samsara is emptied, one will work for the benefit of sentient beings. Fourth, even in dreams, generate loving-kindness, compassion, and Bodhicitta, and repeatedly generating Bodhicitta is of utmost importance. In the Sutra of the Ocean of Activities, it says, "A Bodhisattva, even when sleeping or dreaming, only generates the mind for the benefit of others." Fifth: Even generating Bodhicitta for a moment, one becomes the lineage of all Buddhas or the son of all Bodhisattvas. As stated in the Bodhicaryavatara, "Now my life has meaning, I have well obtained this human existence, today I am born into the Buddha lineage, now I have become a Buddha's son." Second: Jowo Je considers there to be three: confession, disclosure, and vows. Lama Shangpa considers there to be two: disclosure and confession. First is disclosure: Whatever afflictions arise, before the body's energy channels are broken, in front of the Guru, Dharma friends, or all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (756), verbally recite: All the non-virtuous actions of all sentient beings led by me, I disclose and confess. If the body's energy channels are broken, or if it is interrupted by words, it will increase, so it is very important to disclose or confess with them. Second, confession is divided into three: superior, intermediate, and inferior. First: Confess within the state of Mahamudra. In the Sutra Requested by the Remover of Obscurations, it says, "If one wishes to perform purification, one should truly see reality, seeing reality is liberation, this is the supreme purification." Intermediate: Confess by visualizing the object to be confessed, the confessor, and all the sins to be confessed as dreamlike illusions. Inferior is to regret what was done before.

Generate regret. Vow not to do it again. Now confess with a feeling of regret. Regarding the timing: the best is to confess immediately. The medium is to confess immediately after, and the worst is to confess three times a day and three times at night, with no room for not confessing (757). By practicing in this way, even if mistakes are made in dreams, they will naturally be confessed aloud. It is said that this can completely eliminate all seeds of wrongdoing. Third, do not associate with ordinary people: When starting practice in the early morning, if you cannot visualize your own five aggregates as the five Buddha families, then visualize yourself as the supreme bliss. Visualize the guru in the throat, the yidam in the heart, the Dharma protectors in the navel, and Chakrasamvara in the crown of the head. Visualize Mahamaya in the throat, Hevajra in the heart, Guhyasamaja in the navel, and Vajrabhairava in the secret place. Visualize all the elements of the root chakras as heroes and heroines. Second, bless the food: Below Jambudvipa, from यྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: यं, Romanized Sanskrit: yaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: wind) arises wind, from रྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: रं, Romanized Sanskrit: raṃ, literal Chinese meaning: fire) arises fire, from कྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: कं, Romanized Sanskrit: kaṃ, literal Chinese meaning: space) arises a skull cup, from अ (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, literal Chinese meaning: none) arises a skull, filled with the five meats and five amritas, and possessing their respective implements. Through the combination of fire and wind, with ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओं आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ āḥ hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: om ah hum) it becomes the nectar of samaya. Invite the wisdom (758) nectar, and mix them without duality. Visualize the yidam father and mother blessing it into bliss and emptiness with white and red bodhicitta. It is said that this can eliminate all the sins of eating offerings and ransom bodies without blessing them. It is said that by blessing all food and drink before eating, all violations will be purified, and all common and supreme siddhis will be accomplished in just a few months. Fourth, from the Compendium: Until those roots of virtue are perfected, one will not attain that sacred emptiness. Therefore, it is best to liberate through accumulating merit and receiving empowerments. The medium is through the feast gathering, to completely grasp with skillful means, and to give away ungrasped desirable objects, such as the various beautiful things seen by the eyes. Give away all these distinctions. If you do not do this, you will violate the vows. Fifth, there are three types: superior, medium, and inferior. The first is: all small roots of virtue (759) and so on should be taken hold of with dedication. Especially with higher intention, and with devotion and respect for the guru.
