Furthermore, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, in accordance with the faculties of beings to be tamed, taught limitless Dharma doors. Among the beings to be tamed, there are those who can be liberated solely through devotion to the guru. For those with extremely sharp faculties, the guru did not give a single word of instruction, and the disciple did not hear a single word (572); liberation can occur solely through the auspicious coincidence of the meeting between guru and disciple. For example, when Jowo Naropa was meditating in the depths of the forest in the lotus posture, a young cowherd would come, and he would prostrate to him; when the cowherd left, he would also prostrate, showing extreme reverence. After some time, (Naropa) gave him a skullcup full of chang, saying, "Drink this." The moment the cowherd finished drinking, his body, speech, and mind were blessed into wisdom vajra, and in an instant, he comprehended all the Dharma, like attaining the siddhi of Mahamudra. In this way, the quote about liberation through devotion to the guru, as cited earlier in the chapter on illusory body, is similar. Especially in this chapter on clear light, the Gyü of the Precious Ocean states: "The clear light of the guru's blessing, at dawn or at another time, the clear, empty, great bliss, inseparable, the door of manifestation, ask from the holy face." What comes from the "holy face" is this recognition of the clear light manifestation door of the Shangpa Kagyu. If we extract its essence and elaborate on it, it is divided into four: the clear light of appearance, the clear light of non-conceptuality, the clear light of bliss, and the clear light of non-duality. The clear light of appearance has already been elaborated on in the previous chapter on illusory body. Although there are many divisions of the clear light of non-conceptuality, the main or supreme one is to abide in the state of the reality of Mahamudra, without meditation or distraction. The clear light of bliss is divided into the clear light of contaminated bliss and the clear light of uncontaminated bliss. The first is when, through the power of increasing bliss, relying on certain causes that trigger the arising of melting bliss, great bliss arises, and when the bodhicitta (574) jewel is about to turn from detachment to the dark side, slightly suppress the upper prana, contract the lower prana, and abide in the state of uncorrected non-grasping. As Saraha said: "If you make it like space, the prana will also be bound; if you fully know equality, it will completely dissolve." Thus, abiding in the uncorrected mind, its youthful prana

. Therefore, by clinging to it, the mind of enlightenment is also bound, which is the nature of Dharma. Relying on it, all objects, minds, and appearances arise as bliss, to the extent that the body cannot move, and even cutting flesh will manifest bliss, hence it is called the luminous clarity of contaminated bliss. Its meaning is that the four joys of the upper increase are complete, and it is the co-emergent one residing in the Vajra Jewel. Precisely because this is the ultimate of all worldly paths, (575) it is regarded as the supreme Dharma in the Tantras and the great commentaries of India. The reason for calling this contaminated is that it is not grasped by the self-nature complete wisdom or the self-aware wisdom of each individual, hence it is called contaminated bliss. The second is: the luminous clarity where bliss increases and there is no clinging to bliss is the luminous clarity mixed with contaminated and uncontaminated. So it is said. There is such a doubt about this: Bliss increases, and there is no clinging to it, the so-called luminous clarity mixed with contaminated and uncontaminated. Should this statement be categorized under the joy of contaminated upper increase or the joy of uncontaminated lower increase? The reason for asking this is that if there is a luminous clarity mixed with contaminated and uncontaminated, then the meaning of mixed must be something that has both components. If it belongs to the joy of contaminated lower increase (576), then it should not have the component of uncontaminated. Because the uncontaminated mentioned here must be the self-nature complete wisdom or the self-aware wisdom of each individual. If it is again categorized under the uncontaminated lower increase, then mixing with contaminated is not reasonable. Because contamination is referred to as afflictions, and the joy of lower increase is pervaded by the noble path. So what is the meaning of these? The luminous clarity of contamination is the luminous clarity during the accumulation phase of ordinary beings. Those are worldly paths, so they are only profound and complete. The luminous clarity mixed with contaminated and uncontaminated is the luminous clarity in the mindstream of Bodhisattva Aryas. So how do they have the component of contamination? Generally, for the noble learners, there is the term of the ground of ignorance imprints. Especially in the Uttaratantra, it says: (577) Thus, the essence of the Victorious One is said to be the ten aspects of establishment, residing in the husk of afflictions, it should be understood by metaphors. The metaphors mentioned are:
