(531) The method of practice is as follows: As said in the song of the Lord of Yoga, Smiling Vajra: Subdue like a turtle's pace, sit like an Avadhūta, dispel like the transformations of animals, display like the mudrā of liberation. Thus it is done. As for mixing with the winds, it is said, "If not mixed with the winds, one loses control." Therefore, it is taught that after subduing and dispelling, one should diligently practice vase breathing. To be adorned with great stainless wisdom is to transform desirable qualities into the path through the gate of fully understanding their nature. As it says in the Two Examinations: Attachment binds the world, but attachment itself can become liberation. This meditation of reversal is not known by the Buddhas. (532) And as it says in the Dohā: What binds the fool, the wise quickly liberates. And: Since objects rely on objects, there is no need for objects, like a lotus petal unstained by water. Thus it is said. The number of prayers and objects of focus in the path of means is: In the path of means, bliss-heat self-ignites, there are two prayers and five objects of focus. The prayers mentioned are: To generate the samādhi of bliss-heat, to generate the samādhi of bliss-emptiness. The five objects of focus are: The body's key points, the empty space of fire, consuming ḍākinī fire as food, wearing it as clothing, spreading it as a mat, and requesting the power of existence. The power of existence means that the amount of accomplishment is obtained through this power, hence it is called the power of existence. (533) Second, the spontaneous liberation of attachment and aversion in the illusory body: The illusory body is unreal, the faculties are superior, middling, and inferior, inseparable devotion, whatever appears to one's own body, taking all appearances as empty and free from clinging, taking the path of the deity's form. Attachment and aversion are spontaneously liberated, and one attains the fourteen bhūmis. This teaches the instructions on the spontaneous liberation of attachment and aversion in the illusory body. Its characteristic is: Although it appears, its own nature is not established. This is the characteristic of illusion. Thus, knowing all phenomena of appearance and sound to be illusory, it is a yoga that liberates attachment and aversion in their own place. Among them, the superior faculties rely on the noble guru as a friend, the middling faculties are guided without being interrupted by other words, and the inferior faculties generate samādhi in one place. The first is that by (534) devotion to the guru alone, one can traverse all the bhūmis and paths. As it says in the Two Examinations:

It is born together with what is not spoken by that (Tibetan: ན་), It cannot be found anywhere, Relying on the means of the Lama's time, It is known from my merit. Thus it is said. Mother Yeshe Khandro (Tibetan: མ་ཡེ་ཤེས་མཁའ་འགྲོས།) said: The stages of the five paths and ten bhumis, Are traversed by the power of devotion, Inseparability from the Lama's appearance, The essence of the Tantras is the supreme key. Thus it is said. Jamyang Sakya Pandita said: Although the sun's rays are very hot, Fire does not arise without a burning glass, Likewise, the blessings of the Buddha, Will not arise without a Lama. For example, even if the sun's rays are very hot, it is impossible for the light to ignite tinder. When the light is concentrated on a burning glass, and the burning glass and tinder (535) come into contact, fire arises. Likewise, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are the nature of inconceivable compassion and blessings, but sentient beings, due to their inferior fortune, find it difficult for the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to directly enter their minds. As it is said: Even if the king of gods sends down rain, Seeds that are not suitable will not sprout, Even if the Buddhas have come, Those without fortune will not experience goodness. Thus it is said. Therefore, if the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are gathered in the Lama and one prays, then accomplishments will quickly arise. Therefore, making that the path, one practices through the two doors of taking the supplication of the Lama as the path, and taking whatever appears as unreal as the path. Second, for those of medium capacity, guiding them without interruption by other words (536), as it says in the Sutra Requested by the Youth Rabnang: All dharmas are like dreams and illusions, Whoever remembers speaking those words, Will be liberated from the bonds of existence, And will surely attain enlightenment in this very life. As it is said, needless to say about ordinary idle talk, even reciting sutras, chanting mantras, and so on, should all be temporarily set aside. And in your mind, think that all appearances are like illusions and dreams. And in your speech, constantly say, "Like a dream, like an illusion." The practice for those of medium capacity is twofold: one's own body, appearing empty, is the deity's form, and whatever appears is taken as the path of illusion. The number of supplications and aspirations for both superior and medium capacities is: For those of superior and medium capacity, There are five supplications and three aspirations. As it is said, (537) the five supplications are: Abandoning self-grasping, Unnecessary arising in the mind.
