Not to mention idle talks and the like, even reciting scriptures and mantras should be temporarily (410) set aside, and one should focus single-mindedly on mindfulness. The method for abandoning this life is to remember the impermanence of death, to know that all appearances are one's own mind, and to trust and generate certainty in the method of meditating on the mind as illusion and dream. Many teachings and stories from the sutras and tantras have been spoken about this, which should be learned from the guru's instructions. Among these, there are two: First, one's own body as the deity's form, which is empty in appearance. By generating bodhicitta and practicing guru yoga, and praying as before, appearances will completely dissolve into emptiness. Meditate on oneself as the body of supreme bliss, complete with body color, hand gestures, ornaments, attire, and posture (411). Although appearances take form, touch does not. Like a reflection in a mirror, this is entirely a creation of one's own mind, an appearance in the mind, and apart from this, there is no independently existing entity outside. Appearance is appearance, reality is not reality. This is exactly like a dream, think of it as an illusion. Second, taking all appearances as the path of illusion: The outer four elements—earth, water, fire, and wind—and land, stones, mountains, rocks, plants, forests, mountains, fences, houses, walls, hedges, and the inner sentient beings—men, women, enemies, friends, horses, cattle, etc.—all phenomena encompassed by appearance and existence are merely creations of one's own mind, appearances in the mind, and apart from this, there is no independently existing entity in things themselves. (412) Appearance is appearance, reality is not reality. These are all illusions, think of them as dreams, and meditate single-mindedly. In post-meditation: In all activities, think that you will die, and have devotion to the guru, especially in walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, in food, clothing, pleasant or unpleasant words, etc. When encountering objects of attachment and aversion, think, "I am asleep." This is like walking and sitting in a dream, like attachment and aversion in a dream, etc. Thinking in this way, also recite "illusion, dream" with your mouth, and also treat everything as illusion and dream in your mind, so that everything you do becomes virtuous. Third, if virtue is not generated in those of superior and intermediate faculties, then (413) the concept of the dharmakaya will not arise in relation to the guru. Due to the weak power of devotion and aspiration, one becomes a person of inferior faculties. Meditate in one place.

The practice of the generation stage is: Abandon the four drowsinesses and meditate without losing the warmth of sleep. The four drowsinesses are: frequent walking and moving, distraction, many thoughts, and much meaningless idle talk, which are the drowsinesses of practice. Among these four, the first is the method of visualizing the six realms as illusions: Practice Guru Yoga, and pray to eliminate self-grasping, meaningless thoughts, and to become proficient in illusory body and dreams. With the essential points of the body, visualize yourself as the deity, and below the navel of the deity, visualize a Dharma source, white on the outside and red on the inside, with the nature of light. Inside the Dharma source, visualize all sentient beings of the six realms, such as hell (414), gathered like light in the fire of the navel chakra, and then contract the lower wind. These sentient beings of the six realms, because they cling to unreal things as real, wander in samsara, which is truly pitiful. Visualize that these beings appear, but are not real, and that this is merely a dream, an illusion. The wisdom of post-meditation is also as before. Through intention, as if suppressing the upper wind, warmth arises. If devotion and intention are used as support, it is impossible for illusions not to naturally arise. The second is the method of transforming illness and demonic influences into the path: If you are sick or harmed by demons, visualize the illness and demons as unreal illusions and dreams. In particular, for demons, visualize all harmful things (415) entering the body along with the wind, and then incorporate them into the Dharma source below the navel. Close the opening of the Dharma source and rotate it. By visualizing the demon as an illusion, the perpetrator experiences the suffering of the six realms, remembers it, and generates remorse. When the intention to harm subsides, exhale outward with the wind, give a ransom offering in front, and make it non-attached. In the Sukhama chakra, below the lotus petals and letters of the navel chakra, visualize the sentient beings of the six realms within the Dharma source. Through recitation, the mantra does not waver, and the lotus rotates. Visualize the light of the letter A (ཨ་, A, अ, a) and the letters shining on the six realms and transforming into light. Contract the lower wind, move the body, recite with the mouth, and keep the mind inseparable from the recollection of illusion. The third (416) is the collection of six qualities that arise: By contracting the lower wind, warmth arises, which enables control of the bindu, and illusions naturally arise, dreams are naturally mastered, purification and increase can be performed, appearances can manifest, and the six realms of beings can be matured and liberated. The fourth is the non-attached natural arising of illusion: In this way, in all times of meditation and post-meditation,
