It is said otherwise. Thus it is said. In the 'Two-Without-Distinction-Victorious-King Sutra': This illusion transcends existence and non-existence, (329) it does not even abide in the Madhyamaka, it is merely conventional truth. From the appearance of illusion, all phenomena arise as unceasing play of self-arising. Thus it is said. In the 'Sutra Requested by the Son of Gods': How should one view the uncertain appearances? The Buddha replied: On the earth, there is an appearance of earth. On the earth, there is an appearance of water, on the earth, there is an appearance of fire, on the earth, there is an appearance of wind, on the earth, there is an appearance of sky. Therefore, it is uncertain. Thus it is said. Furthermore, a frog has the perception of the earth as the sky. Therefore, it runs under the ground, and cannot be caught by a horse running above. In China, there is a fire-rat, for which fire appears as food and clothing. The fire-rat is strong and about the size of a sheep. When the fire is small, it is dull and about the size of a cat. (330) Perceiving the sky as earth is a sign of non-Buddhists. Striking the sky produces a sound. Teacher Buddha Wisdom Feet said that when he went to Kongkana in the south, all the crops and plants were growing in the sky. He said that because in our country they grow on the ground, he could not understand it. Furthermore, for crows and humans it is daytime, for fireflies and owls it is nighttime. The two of them perceive the daytime as the nighttime of humans and crows. This is also an uncertain appearance. It was asked, how should one view illusion? The Buddha replied: In central India, there was a brave (331) and handsome king. He desired a horse, so the queen summoned a magician and had him create a horse through illusion. The magician conjured up a fat, beautiful, well-shaped, and fast horse and placed it at the door. The queen said to the king, who was seated on a golden throne, "Won't you buy a horse?" The king asked, "What kind of horse is it?" The queen said, "It is much better than all the previous ones." The king hurriedly went to the magician and asked how much he wanted. The magician said he wanted half the kingdom. The king agreed without hesitation. Then another person came and said that he was not the owner of the horse, and if they were to make a real deal, he could pay half the queen. (332) The king agreed. Then another person came and said that they were not the owners either, and if they were to make a real deal, the princes were willing to pay half the price, a little

They asked about the horse's speed. After the king personally observed, he mounted the horse, and the horse carried the king away. Even after a kalpa, there were no insurmountable trees or obstacles. Next to a vast plain where fierce beasts roamed, there was a lake. The king was thrown down by the lake, and the horse jumped into the lake. The king felt sorrow, and as he went in one direction (333), he smelled smoke. Thinking he might encounter people, he searched diligently and found a small house in a friend's home, where an old couple lived with a daughter of exceedingly beautiful appearance and a deaf son. After recounting the previous story, the old couple said: If she marries you, you will not be able to meet the queen, so stay with our daughter. So he stayed, and after seven years, five children were born. Then the old man said: King, you are fortunate, please cherish this deaf son, and with that, he jumped into the lake. Similarly, the old woman and the daughters also (334) said the same and jumped into the lake. Finally, the mute also opened his mouth and said: King, you are very fortunate, live happily, and with that, he jumped into the lake. The king felt sorrow. At the junction of sunlight and shadow, there was a long shadow. At that moment, the queen said: Now the sun has not yet come out, break the illusion, and so the illusion was broken. In seven years, the shadow had only moved the distance of seven fingers. Therefore, a moment was mistaken for a long time. At that moment, the king thought that the entire kingdom, including the queen, was no different from the previous illusion. Therefore, he renounced and practiced in the presence of the Buddha, and attained the fruit of an Arhat. The son of the gods said, illusion is like that. (335) Again, a request: Holy one, how should dreams be viewed? The reply was: In the south of India, there was a king named Chandra Bhadra, who had a daughter of beautiful form, very beautiful, possessing precious jewels and ornaments. Once, she was residing in a room of sorrow. Among the thirty-two maids, one of the best asked: Goddess, why are you sorrowful at such an affluent time? She replied: Because I cannot find someone suitable to become my husband. And so, our own...
