Whatever beneficial actions are performed, that is the karma mudra. The teaching of the dharma mudra is: knowing all dharmas as mind, realizing the emptiness of mind-nature, and the arising of the bliss-clarity of mind-nature—these three are the means to sever grasping and conceptual thoughts. That is the dharma mudra. The essence of the Mahamudra is: unmade, self-existing, spontaneously accomplished, abiding in a state without birth or cessation. From the mouth of the Protector Maitreya also: spontaneously accomplished and without attachment, without obstruction and constant, abiding equally and answering all questions, I prostrate to you. There are two kinds of joys, outer and inner. Among them, the inner joys are: the residue of the habit of ignorance and sleep, when harmonized with the guru's instructions, knowing it as illusion in dreams. When the appearance of delusion slightly subsides, from fire, water, cliffs, and so on, joy arises from being free from suffering. When self-awareness arises as illusion, and fear and anxiety diminish, that is the supreme joy. The experience of bliss in the illusory body, when one realizes the emptiness of its nature, that is the co-emergent joy. When the grasping of illusion subsides, and the luminosity of dharmata slightly arises, the good thoughts that grasp at illusion vanish, which is joylessness. The four outer joys are: having faith in the cause and effect of samsaric dharmas is joy. Through the benefit of familiarity with experience, realizing it as illusion is the surpassing joy. Relying solely on illusion, the mind-nature abides firmly, and the arising of bliss-clarity is the co-emergent joy. Everything abides without departing from the nature of illusion, this is the body of non-dual great bliss, which is called Mahamudra. Furthermore, it should be understood in this way: the practice of the two stages of generation and completion is samatha and vipassana. Even during the time of samatha in sleep, knowing dreams as the mind's body, through familiarizing oneself with self-appearance, whatever appears can be transformed. By meditating on the deity's body with the mind, that body has no flesh and blood. The deity's body, like a rainbow, appears very clearly. Also, from the Sutra of the All-Illuminating One, after meditating on the mind's mandala, placing it on someone with a contagious disease, arising in that person's (302) channels, there is no doubt that they will be liberated from the epidemic. Where there is no mind, there is no mandala.
