The sound of melodious singing echoes, Surrounded by many pleasing things, Once it is determined that self-appearance is illusory, They cannot hold it either. The great Brahmin said this: (288) When encountering an unprecedented beauty, The sleeping mind relies on a baseless foundation, Do not regard your own mind as something different, At that time, you will have the Buddha in your hands. Furthermore, it should be understood as follows: From the three illusionists, In the center where many people gather, From the illusion of the elephant conjured, It is possible to generate fear, hatred, and dread. One illusionist, Only shows the illusory elephant. Another doesn't even have an appearance. Similarly, there are three statements of wisdom. When clinging to the elephant as real, It is the wisdom of separate knowledge. When clinging to it as merely an illusion, It is the wisdom of conventional knowledge. When there is not even an appearance, When the illusion merges into luminosity. The teacher Chandrakirti said this: That which has become a means is the conventional (289) truth, That which has arisen from the means is the ultimate truth, Because they do not know what the difference is between the two, They go to the lower realms with wrong views. Furthermore, it should be understood as follows: The object of memory and the object of appearance, The Madhyamaka school considers it this way. That dream of falling asleep, When it is cut off and awakened, It is vague in the realm of memory, Those two that appear now, From thinking of equality, Is the view of the great yogi. It does not become equal, There is no appearance in the realm of memory, It has become the former and latter two. When dreaming clearly, Once it is known as like an illusion, The realm of appearance does not cease, the realm of memory is clear. Appearance and memory, Are non-dual illusions. That is the way to practice mantra. From the Prajna (290) Paramita, All dharmas are like illusions and dreams, The Buddha is like an illusion and a dream, If there is another dharma that is more superior than that, Even if there is, it is like an illusion and a dream. Knowing all beings as like emanations, That person has no fear. The person who knows dreams, For the various dreams that arise, There is no fear, anxiety, or dread. For the appearance of waking up, Various white, red, etc. appear, Like a dream, there is no fear. Being free from fear and anxiety, Is a sign of mastering dreams. That is also the lineage.

Thus it was said. Like illusory wisdom, there is no deception. Ya (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), Mi (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), Ang (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), and Ba (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), Mi (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), Tsa (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), if the benefits of this are explained, poison, fire, and water cannot harm it. Demons and their retinues cannot find an opportunity to strike. The individual who has mastered dream yoga is said to be no different from a tenth-ground Bodhisattva (291). That tenth-ground Bodhisattva, their body is a youthful body of light, the obscurations of knowledge are like a callus on the sole of the foot, they dwell just as they are upon it. The means to abandon that here, with a samadhi like a vajra, is the best way to abandon the obscurations of knowledge, to realize the Dharmakaya. The individual who has mastered illusion, has no coarse afflictions or obscurations. By training in the illusory body, obscurations are exhausted. Upon the clinging to mere illusion, the body of light, a gathering of the five purities, by practicing clear light, one abandons the obscurations of knowledge. Body and obscurations are equally realized, therefore the difference in method is superior. The individual who has realized illusion, enjoys the three liberations. First, liberation is without birth, in the middle, liberation is without characteristics (292), and finally, liberation is without aspiration. The individual who has realized illusion, upon the meaning of rootlessness, free from duality, upon the imputation of no-birth, is the faultless gate of liberation. Upon the red and white of arising afflictions, other than mere illusion, there is nothing whatsoever that is truly established. The gate of liberation without characteristics, in the non-duality of space and wisdom, there is no establishment outwardly. The gate of liberation without aspiration, is the method of training in the three liberations. The six perfections are divided into two, the yogi trains in this way. At the moment of seizing the dream, one should know that it is self-appearance. This appearance of the habitual body, limbs such as the head, are given away without fear. Because it is self-appearance, this appearance can be transformed into whatever appears. To accomplish the benefit of beings (293), is the perfection of generosity. When these habitual afflictions of the past are realized as illusory, other than benefiting others, harm is removed along with its root. That is the perfection of discipline. When self-appearance is combined with illusion, the confused consciousness returns, at that time there is no consciousness of awareness, at the moment of waking from sleep.
