Then, having accepted, for this teaching of the empty lotus, please practice! If signs do not appear, then Vajradhara and I have deceived you. It is impossible for signs not to appear in this (231). It is impossible not to go to the pure, blissful, and empty sky-faring realm within three years. It is impossible not to attain Buddhahood in years and months. Furthermore, having meditated for two years, the complete signs of going to the pure sky-faring realm will appear, but because the samaya was not protected, it has been delayed. Now, protect your samaya and meditate well, he said. Lama Darkar Rinpoche Tsenru, protect your samaya and meditate well! It is impossible not to accomplish it in three years, he said. A summary of the Abhisamaya of the Tantra section, the heart essence of the great scholars and accomplished ones, this which surpasses all is completely perfected. May all unchanging sentient beings attain the state of the five victorious Buddhas! (232) (233) The sayings of the Six Dharmas are here. (234) I respectfully prostrate to the feet of the holy Lama. Possessing the compassionate nature of accomplishing the benefit of others, acting like the Buddha in showing the teachings, the glorious Lama lineage and those who guide us, I prostrate to them. If one is to practice a genuine Dharma, one must generate the impermanence of death in one's mind, and one must renounce this life. In the temple of Lato Toling (235), the translator Rinchen Zangpo invited Atisha. In the lower level of the three-story temple, where the deities of the Action Tantra were residing, Atisha prostrated while making praises in accordance with the practice. In the middle level were the deities of the Yoga Tantra, and in the upper level were the deities of the Anuttara Tantra, each making praises in accordance with their practice while prostrating. The translator thought, 'He is truly a great scholar' (236). Atisha asked the translator, 'How are these deities practiced?' The translator replied, 'I practice them sequentially from the lower level.' Atisha said, 'It is necessary to gather the essence.' The translator asked, 'Is it more virtuous to explain or to practice?' Atisha said, 'Renounce this life.' The translator also asked, 'Is it more virtuous to listen or to meditate?' Atisha also said, 'Renounce this life.' In short, if you do not renounce this life, then explaining will have mistakes in the explanation, listening will have mistakes in the listening, and meditating will have mistakes in the meditation, he said. Kharak Gomchung said, 'Having done learning and practice with a competitive mind, and having become a teacher desiring fame and profit.'

And, the arrogant who desire to be wise, are these three Dharma? Think about it! That's what he said. Furthermore, to Dampa Rinpoche, a patron who had been a patron for a long time said: (237) Now that I am old, please teach me a short and essential Dharma that is easy to practice. Dampa Rinpoche said: You must do a hundred tsok offerings and a hundred offerings. The patron did so, but not long after, he said: Now please teach me the Dharma. Dampa Rinpoche said: There is a Dharma that cannot be heard by others, take a set of tsok offering items and go to a place where there is no one. After saying that, they went to a cave, and he said: See if there is anyone. The patron said: No one. Dampa Rinpoche said: Now grab my hand and look at my mouth. The patron did so. Dampa Rinpoche said: Oh, then I will die too, and you will die too, it's over. I have given you such profound Dharma. The patron thought: This Dharma requires a hundred tsok offerings and a hundred offerings, (238) it feels like I have met an old swindler. He didn't sleep much that night, and in the early morning he slept a little, and suddenly a thought of impermanence of death arose in his mind. That's what Dampa Rinpoche said. Furthermore, Kharak Gomchungpa, when he was young, he practiced in strict retreat, and people said: Practicing without hearing and thinking will be taken away by obstacles, like putting meat in a claw and giving it to a dog. When Putowa went to visit his monastery, the animals there ran away. He saw that in the four directions outside his residence, there was a high ground in each direction, with letters written on it. On the east it was written: I, this weak person, suffer many misfortunes and harms, if I can be steadfast, misfortune will turn into help. Like the fire of the forest and a spark, living alone (239) is my summer vow. On the south it was written: The Lord of Death, the demon, will not stay, he will come again and again, and there is no way to escape from this. Now I am controlled by sleep and laziness, when will I encounter such a moment? On the west it was written: The food and clothing of this life will end anyway, and there is no way to seek the essence of enlightenment after death. Do not be attached to the enemies you have captured and all parties, it is most important to quickly accumulate great merit. On the north it was written: Life has no leisure, and idle talk has no end, therefore, understand the intention of the holy ones, practice shamatha and vipassana in a monastery away from noise, and live alone like a rhinoceros horn. He saw these.
