From the lineage of the Wise: "Overcome strong attachment by contemplating the impurity of flesh and fat, skin, and bones. Apply the water of love and compassion to hatred. For ignorance, use the path of dependent origination." Thus it is said. The Mahayana Mantrayana practitioner should gather and practice their own virtuous deeds. That is, mixing with desire, hatred, ignorance, pride, and (171) jealousy. Increase strength at the base, adorn the path, and manifest the fruit. The first is to be done from generating the mind of enlightenment up to praying to realize the great seal of clear light. Then, while abiding on the three self-existing states, deliberately approach objects that cause desire to arise. Without being tainted by habits, complete whatever skill is available in the mind, and do not accumulate karma. If one is overcome by the conceptual thought of desire, then the actions caused by desire, etc., female demons arise, cold diseases attack, and one is born in the preta realm. In the Sambuta it says: "Conceptual thought is great ignorance, it causes one to fall into the ocean of samsara." Thus it is said. Without being overcome by it, (172) but gathering it back under the power of one's own virtuous deeds, then twenty-one thousand arising from desire, people and non-humans with desire are brought under control. Freed from the harm of female demons, cold diseases do not attack, and one is not born in the preta realm. In the Sambuta it says: "If one abides in non-conceptual samadhi, it appears without effort, like the sky." Likewise, if one is overcome by hatred, then the actions caused by it, etc., male demons arise, hot diseases attack, and one goes to the hell realm. If one is overcome by ignorance, then the actions caused by it, etc., earth demons arise, phlegm diseases attack, and one is born as an animal. Without being overcome by it, but gathering it under the power of virtuous deeds, then twenty-one thousand arising from hatred, people and non-humans with hatred are brought under control, etc., should be known in this way. (173) Secondly, at that time, may the desire of all sentient beings ripen in me, and may all sentient beings possess the root of virtue free from desire. Recite this three times, and also think about it in your mind. Thirdly, when conceptual thoughts of attachment arise towards inner sentient beings, outer objects, and enjoyments, without being overcome by them, on that seat

O! Within that illusion wheel, virtuous deeds must be included and transformed into the path. When thoughts of greed and stinginess arise towards beings and things, and when the essence of those who are talented but have not accumulated merit is observed nakedly, it cannot sustain itself. Instead, it manifests nakedly as emptiness, and that clear joy is not lost. Without being interrupted by other thoughts, bliss-emptiness without clinging is taken as the path. The second case is that the basis and the path are the same as before, but the result is: when the essence of the anger thought, which is afflicted by tormenting thoughts, is observed nakedly, it cannot sustain itself. Instead, it manifests nakedly as emptiness, and that clear radiance does not disappear. Without being interrupted by other thoughts, clarity-emptiness without clinging is taken as the path. The third case is that when one cannot distinguish between what to accept and reject in the realm of knowable things, or when one is immersed in sleep and dullness, when a thought of ignorance arises, observing its essence nakedly, it cannot sustain itself. Instead, it manifests nakedly as emptiness, and that non-conceptual clarity is not lost. Thought (175) The second case is that the basis and the path are the same as the previous five cases, but the result is: when the essence of the anger thought, which is afflicted by tormenting thoughts, is observed nakedly, it cannot sustain itself. Instead, it manifests nakedly as emptiness, and the radiance is clear. Without losing that clear radiance, without being interrupted by other thoughts, clarity-emptiness without clinging is taken as the path. Without being interrupted by other thoughts, non-conceptuality and non-arising are taken as the path. (176) (177) Without being interrupted by other thoughts, bliss-emptiness without clinging is taken as the path. Thoughts of arrogance regarding lineage, family, status, etc., and jealousy that cannot tolerate the wealth of others, should also be understood as before. Or, when a thought of attachment that is difficult to abandon arises, do not follow it, nor abandon it, but with a mind that thinks it is emptiness.
