Homage to the Guru. Here, regarding the external practice of rejoicing, there are three parts: preliminary, main practice, and conclusion. The first part is: Having cleaned the dwelling place well, in front of the representations and offerings, arrange three round tormas. The first is for the Lama Yidam, the second for the Dharma Protectors, and the third for the local deities, following the customs of others. The second part is the main practice: The students, having bathed, sit in order. Following the usual etiquette, first have them offer the mandala. Recite the prayers such as "Great Bliss" and perform the seven-branch prayer. Then, visualize in the sky in front of you countless Lamas, Yidams, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas. (674) Having offered incense and other offerings, meditate on rejoicing. First, clearly recall the virtuous deeds you have done, such as your own acts of generosity, and meditate on joy. Then, regarding the general virtue of all beings, such as the ten perfections, and in particular, offering to the Three Jewels above, giving to beggars below, and making offerings to the Sangha in between, think, "Ah, how joyful, I rejoice!" And regarding the perfectly pure morality and perfectly pure samadhi of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and regarding the vast deeds of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, such as giving away their bodies and lives for immeasurable eons to benefit sentient beings, (675) think, "Ah, how joyful, I rejoice!" By meditating on rejoicing with your own unwavering faith, from the brow of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in front of you, a white stream of loving-kindness arises. As it dissolves into your body, think that the obscurations of your body are purified. From their throat center, a red stream of loving-kindness arises. As it dissolves into the students' throats, think that the sins and obscurations of speech are purified. From their heart center, a blue light arises. As it dissolves into the students' hearts, think that the sins and obscurations of mind are purified. Finally, visualize all the Lamas, Yidams, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas dissolving into the students, and the students transforming into the form of the one-faced, two-armed (676) Great Compassionate One. Afterward, dedicate the merit. This, too, is based on the words of Sangye Nyenton, slightly elaborated and written down. May virtue and excellence increase! May there be auspiciousness! The confirmation of the aspiration prayer is: In the sky in front of oneself, countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas reside.
