From the instructions on the three unmistakable bardos of the yogi. Among these, the yogi's object of training is the three bodies of the bardo, and the methods of training are generation stage, completion stage, dream, and clear light. As stated in the Tantra of the Play of Wisdom: "These three bodies of the bardo, train in generation, completion, dream, and clear light." And as stated in the Hevajra Tantra: "Just like illusion and dream, just like the intermediate existence of the bardo." Therefore, the three bodies of the bardo (589) that are the object of training are: the bardo of birth and death, the bardo of dream, and the bardo of existence. The first is: from birth until death, it is the bardo of birth and death, which is the body of fully ripened karma. Why is it the body of fully ripened karma? Because one has accumulated many virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and experiences various forms of happiness and suffering, it is the body of fully ripened karma. The second is: from falling asleep until waking up, it is the bardo of dream, which is the body of habitual imprints. Why is it the body of habitual imprints? Because various habitual imprints of this life arise in dreams, it is the body of dream habitual imprints. The third is: from death until taking rebirth, it is the bardo of existence, which is the mind body. Why is it the mind body? Because it feeds on odors, the mind is like an illusion, the senses are complete, and it is the unobstructed mind body. Secondly, the method of training is: to train the body of fully ripened karma with the deity body and the great mudra. To train the body of habitual imprints (590) with dream transformation and so on. The mind body should be trained with clear light. Alternatively, for each of these three bodies, the object of training is the three aspects of body, speech, and mind, and the methods of training are the three aspects of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, and the result to be attained is the non-duality of the three kayas. Among these, those with superior faculties attain enlightenment in the body of fully ripened karma. Those with intermediate faculties attain enlightenment in the body of habitual imprints. Those with inferior faculties, what they have practiced during the time of fully ripened karma will go as a seed and cause them to attain enlightenment in the bardo. As stated in the Song of Gnyan ston sbas pa's Yoga: "The body of fully ripened karma is the body of the Victorious One, all things are accomplished by mere thought. The illusory body without object is a wanderer, thus speaks the guru of one's own mind. The body of habitual imprints is the body of the Victorious One, all things are accomplished by mere thought. The illusory body without object is a wanderer, the guru of one's own mind (591) speaks thus. The mind body is the body of the Victorious One, all things are accomplished by mere thought.

Accomplished. The illusory body of aimlessness is a wanderer. My own mind, the Lama, said so. As it was said, first, if one does not grasp the key to the body of fruition, then one does not grasp the key to the body of habit. If one grasps that, one cannot grasp the key to the body of mind, so it will only become a wheel of delusion. Having placed these instructions for the three bodies in your heart, along with the causes and conditions for these appearances of day and night, if the daytime appearance is not confused, then the nighttime appearance will not be confused, and if that is not confused, then the bardo will not be confused. The accomplished wheel-turner Thangtong Gyalpo said: The appearance of daytime is caused by ignorance, conditioned by karma and afflictions, and combined with actions. The dream of nighttime is caused by habits, conditioned by (592) seeing, hearing, and remembering, and combined with sleep. If the appearance of daytime is not confused, then the dream of nighttime will not be confused. If the dream is not confused, then the bardo will not be confused. The hoped-for Buddha is not found. The doubting mind is not found. If the Dharma is exhausted and the mind is exhausted, then the meaning is accomplished. Thus, it is said. It is not enough to just grasp the dream; one must become proficient in the clear light of the dream. If conceptual thoughts do not dissolve into the Dharmakaya, then all Dharmas are empty talk. Thus, it is said. Therefore, first, the body of fruition, the Vajra body with the nature of channels, winds, and bindus, must be struck at the essential point with profound yoga. Also, in the second chapter, it says: In the body, great wisdom abides. All thoughts are completely abandoned. The one who pervades all things, the abiding of the body is not born from the body. As it is said, the support is the great wisdom that relies on the body, abiding in a pervasive manner, like a spark (Tibetan: མེ་རྟོག་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अग्निस्फुलिङ्ग, Sanskrit Romanization: agnisphuliṅga, Chinese literal meaning: 火星) and the fragrance of a flower. Thus, it is said. In the Hevajra it says: From what does the bliss arise from the insubstantiality of the body? Bliss cannot be spoken of. In the manner of the pervader and the pervaded, bliss pervades beings. Just as fragrance dwells in a flower, the insubstantiality of the flower cannot be known. Likewise, without the insubstantiality of form and so on, bliss itself cannot be perceived. Thus, it is said. In the Sambuta it says: Even with the eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, and the four thousand practices, if one does not know the reality of the body, then all of those are without fruit. Thus, it is said. If one strikes the essential point of the support, the Vajra body, then wisdom will arise involuntarily, for example, the body of a cow is pervaded by milk.
