Those places have not come here, nor have I gone there at all. Because the place is not established, the happiness and suffering that depend on it are not established either. Similarly, by meditating on such a Mahamudra deity through the guru's instructions, one's own appearance as a deity of Yidam whose nature is not established, clearly appears in the mind, which is an experience (204). When looking at the essence of that deity, it abides in emptiness where nothing is established, free from all objects of expression, nakedly free from the three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding. Similarly, the example of the moon in water, where appearance lacks inherent existence, is like this: When the sky is completely clear and there is a moon, the space is unobstructed, and the water is clear and unpolluted, the image of the moon appears unhindered in the water. As soon as it appears, it has never had its own essence. If it did, it would be like wanting to grasp the moon, but touching it with your hand would destroy it. Finally, when the water dries up, the moon cannot be found anywhere. Therefore, it is free from the three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding. While being free, it arises unceasingly due to the power of causes, conditions, and interdependent origination (205). Similarly, even though one's own mind clearly appears as the deity through the guru's instructions, one should recognize and be certain that its essence abides in emptiness where nothing is established, in the emptiness that is free from the three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding. By continuing this practice, the Mahamudra deity of indivisible appearance and emptiness will be realized. As mentioned above, after having trained in the form, this deity that appears in this way is nothing other than my own mind appearing as the deity. There is nothing that is established separately from the mind. Thinking that the essence of the mind is free from all extremes of expression, do not focus on visualizing the deity, but rest without clinging to the essence. Whatever ordinary thoughts arise (206), do not follow them, but cut them off completely. Let your own mind clearly appear as the deity, and rest effortlessly without clinging to it. Fifth, training in essence, nature, and characteristics: Nature is the great union. Essence is beyond words and beyond mind. That is the Buddha of the three times. Unseen, unseeing, unchanging. It is said that the essence is beyond

Beyond words and thoughts, the essence is inseparable and free from extremes, the characteristics are unmixed and complete, this is what it is. Among them, the first is that the essence of such a Great Seal deity is that it cannot be said to be "non-existent," because the radiant and unceasing form of the deity's face and hands is clear. It cannot be said to be "existent" because its essence is not established anywhere, and it is free from the three stages of arising, ceasing, and abiding. Therefore, it cannot be said to be both or neither, so it is free from all extremes of expression. Thus, it is not established anywhere, but the meaning of appearing in anything transcends all realms of mind. Secondly, the aspect of not being established anywhere is emptiness. While being empty, the radiant and unceasing deity appears without obscuration. These two are not like something that exists from the beginning, but only appear. Yet, one cannot say, "This is its essence," which is emptiness. While being empty, the radiant aspect appears without cessation, which is appearance. In short, searching for luminosity cannot be found, and the one who seeks emptiness is luminosity. Luminosity (208) and emptiness are like fire and the heat of fire, which cannot be distinguished. This is the inseparability of appearance and emptiness, or luminosity and emptiness. Luminosity is free from the extreme of emptiness, and emptiness is free from the extreme of luminosity, it is said. Thirdly, unmixed means that from the color and adornments of the Mother's body, starting from the hand gestures, to the black and white of the eyes, and each strand of hair and body hair, they are unmixed and clear. For example, the five colors of the rainbow are unmixed and clear. Complete means that even the shape of the outer fire mountain, all the ornaments and attire are complete. In short, the Great Seal deity of one's own mind appears but has no inherent nature. It is enough to relax and abide in that state. Such a Great Seal deity, or (209) the Great Seal of reality, or the union of luminosity and emptiness called "Immortal Self-Liberation," is free from all extremes of expression. Its essence is that all Buddhas of the past, future, and present have not seen, do not see, and will not see, because it is free from all objects of seeing, subjects of seeing, and ways of seeing. However, it is not that they have not seen because they do not understand, but because they have not seen phenomena through understanding. Thus, because of understanding, phenomena are not seen. And, "Not seeing is seeing," as stated in the profound sutras.
