If you wonder when you will attain the result of practicing like this, it is said that when you abandon this life, with single-mindedness, in seven days or months and years, how will this wisdom body naturally arise from this afflicted body? It is said like this. (185) Even if you practice, there is no certainty of accomplishment. Even if you accomplish it, you still have to go through transformation. Therefore, abandon all the meaningless and futile affairs of this life, and practice with single-mindedness. Then, the superior faculties will be seven days, the intermediate faculties will be one month, and the inferior faculties will definitely attain Buddhahood in one year. Even if the most inferior cannot practice, as long as they receive this instruction, they will definitely attain Buddhahood by recognizing the clear light of death at the time of death. The way to attain Buddhahood is that the ripened body produced by karma and afflictions, together with its habitual tendencies, is purified into the realm of reality. The wisdom body, the deity body, the great seal, the inseparability of appearance and emptiness, will naturally arise like a rainbow in the sky, benefiting beings until samsara is empty. Second, (186) the extensive explanation is divided into three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding practice. The first part is: with immeasurable bodhicitta as the preliminary. It explains from "with immeasurable bodhicitta as the preliminary" to "unseen, unseeing, seeing without changing." Among them, there are two types of preliminary practices: common and uncommon. The first is: with immeasurable bodhicitta as the preliminary. That is, briefly explain the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity, the impermanence of death, the law of karma, the faults of samsara, and the benefits of liberation. While remembering these meanings, entrust your body, speech, and mind to the refuge field that pervades the sky, recite the refuge verse twenty-one times, and then recite the bodhicitta verse three times. (187) In the deity mandala of your own retreat place, visualize above the crown of your head, or in the sky in front of the crown of your head, a precious throne supported by eight great lions, with various lotus and moon cushions on it. The embodiment of all the Buddhas of the three times, the kind root guru, appears exactly as his body, with a complexion that is white with a reddish glow, clothed in silk and brocade robes, with the nature of light and rays, looking at me with a joyful and smiling face. Just hearing his name can bestow the ground of non-retrogression.

If one makes supplications, there's no need to mention what one should meditate on. Light radiates from his heart. Inviting the root and lineage lamas, yidams, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, dakinis, dharma protectors, and guardians connected to the three times (188), in short, inviting all the refuge objects, the Three Jewels, filling the expanse of the sky, and contemplating them dissolving into the lama, becoming the embodiment of all refuges. Offering to that is: the outer, inner, secret, and suchness offering clouds arising from making all the roots of virtue accumulated in body, possessions, and the three times as the cause, which are inconceivable, and especially filling all the three thousand worlds with gold from the Jambu River, offering it without hesitation. Contemplating the lama as the embodiment of all the lineage lamas, in the Akaniṣṭha Dharma Palace. After reciting the lineage supplication (189), recite once, "The essence of the Buddhas of the three times, glorious and precious lama, to you we supplicate." Praying that the precious lama, for the sake of myself and all sentient beings, may abandon self-grasping, not let unnecessary thoughts arise in the mind, and realize one's own mind as the undying, self-liberated nature. Like this, praying hundreds and thousands of times from the depths of one's heart, until special changes occur such as the hairs of the body standing on end, tears flowing uncontrollably from the eyes, the mind being completely captivated by the lama, and the body and mind being unable to sustain themselves. After that, the lama happily dissolves into light, dissolving from one's own crown, like water merging into water, oil merging into oil. (190) Contemplating the lama's body, speech, and mind merging inseparably with one's own three doors, maintaining awareness with complete focus. When the mind abides in the inexpressible, do not cling to that either, relax the body and speech, and naturally abide in a state of ease. When one wants to arise from that session, dedicate the roots of virtue as stated in "In all lifetimes, may I never be separated from the perfect lama," etc. During all the breaks between sessions, also relax in the state of emptiness, unborn nature, and in the state of unwavering luminosity and clear devotion, spend time with virtuous conduct such as serving the lama. Second, the uncommon preliminaries, learning about color, shape, form, inseparability, essence, nature, and characteristics, (191) there are five.
