Ultimately, one will realize and be able to ascertain the appearance of objects. If one becomes proficient in the illusory body of dreams, one will see inconceivable sights. When awake, contemplate the center of the four throat petals as A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A). From there, a red light ray arises. Use it to wrap around the white bindu Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) on the four petals of the heart chakra, wrapping it three times and then three times again. Then, gather awareness into the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) syllable in the heart and fall asleep. When drowsy, again, a light ray arises from the A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) syllable in the throat, as before. Wrap three white bindus with the Ham (Tibetan: ཧཾ, Devanagari: हं, Romanized Sanskrit: haṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ham) syllable of the crown chakra, and then contemplate them dissolving back into the A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) syllable. Gather awareness into the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) syllable or bindu and lie down. (680) The Anuttara contemplation, learned from oral instructions: On the four petals of the throat, contemplate A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) in front, Ta (Tibetan: ཏ, Devanagari: त, Romanized Sanskrit: ta, Literal Chinese meaning: Ta) in the back, Nu (Tibetan: ནུ, Devanagari: नु, Romanized Sanskrit: nu, Literal Chinese meaning: Nu) on the right, Ra (Tibetan: ར, Devanagari: र, Romanized Sanskrit: ra, Literal Chinese meaning: Ra) on the left, and Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) in the center. As one is about to fall asleep, like the eyes are closing, place attention on the A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) syllable and maintain intention. This will work. Finally, place attention on the Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) syllable and maintain intention. As one is about to completely fall asleep, let the Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om) syllable also disappear, and fall asleep in this state. The method of relying on the heart petals, learned from oral instructions: Contemplate the center of the four petals of the heart dharma-wheel as a white Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) syllable, like the color of mercury. Practice three rounds of breath. Then, place attention on the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) syllable and slightly close the eyes. Rest the mind in the state of clear light, and then fall asleep. The sign that clear light has been attained (681) is: The thoughts of grasping and being grasped are interrupted. The essence of sleep, clear light emptiness, naturally arises without an object, like the center of a clear sky. There is no gap between sleep, drowsiness, and dreams, and there will be a feeling of being about to wake up. In this way, recognize the clear light of the path during the day, and recognize the clear light of sleep at night. Such a person is called an accomplished yogi. Furthermore, if one grasps the clear light of experience, on the blue four petals of the heart, contemplate a mandala of light without any color, the size of an egg, place attention on it, and then fall asleep. For those who have good experiences, vast visions will arise. Even if one only vaguely sees things in the house, if one feels that one has not fallen asleep, there will be a feeling of being about to wake up. If one feels that one has fallen asleep, one will see the house (682) and all the things in it. On top of that, one needs to invoke the clear light of realization. The self-luminous nature of abiding, naturally appearing in the absence of objects, is called clear light. To that, self-luminous

B. Primordially clear, thoroughly clear. Because of self-clarity, there is no place; because of primordial clarity, it does not arise suddenly; because of thorough clarity, it does not depend on the causes of what is to be clarified and what clarifies. There are three types: the luminosity of intrinsic nature, the luminosity of the path, and the luminosity of union. What is known from the instructions on vase breathing is this: one sits in the lotus position with the hands in the gesture of equipoise, the spine straight, and the eyes lowered to the tip of the nose. Then, one inhales gently and deeply, holding and pressing down as much as possible. If one cannot bear it, one exhales slowly (683). In this way, the duration of the three stages of air arising, entering, and abiding as one, is the time to turn one bead of a rosary. Or, while sitting in the lotus position, without the hands touching the knees, one rotates at a moderate speed, and each time the handbell rings, one bead of the rosary is turned. After that, practicing once a day, if thirty-six times are completed, it is a small vase breathing. Seventy-two times is medium, and one hundred and eight times is excellent. When applying the transference of consciousness, there are also three sessions, two sessions, and one session of transference. Thus, after the vase breathing is mastered, one should practice whenever signs appear. Once mastered, one can transfer consciousness at the time of death; transferring consciousness at the wrong time is like killing the deity, so one should not transfer consciousness. Opening the channels, concise transference (684) is known from the oral instructions: when the time is ripe, transfer consciousness at the time of death. Before transferring consciousness, open the channels. Men and women, with the bindu, draw the two, air and mind, upwards. Open the channel openings with heat. The brain of man protects against obstacles. As it is said, place these four substances in the palm of the right hand, rub them with the left ring finger, recite many root mantras of the yidam, place them on the crown of the head, and transfer consciousness. Concise transference meditation: first, perform the preliminary practices. In the main practice, visualize oneself as the deity, and in the Dharma source within the navel, visualize a white letter A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:无) with light. Then, exhale three times, inhale the lower air, and press down on the upper air, causing the A to rise involuntarily (685) in the Avadhuti channel, rising upwards at the crown of the head, emitting white light, and dissolving into emptiness. Afterwards, visualize the A blocking the Brahma aperture from above, and from the A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:无) and Hum (藏文:ཧཾ,梵文天城体:हं,梵文罗马拟音:haṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) letters, nectar of non-outflow descends, the sixty petals of the wheel of manifestation at the navel.
