It is like thinking that one needs to generate Bodhicitta for one's own vehicle. Complete abandonment at the door means: For some things that are contrary to oneself, even if they are helpful to you at some times, they will not be beneficial in any way, whether from a temporary or ultimate perspective, thus completely losing compassion. Whether it is complete abandonment like this, or complete abandonment at the door, if a period of time has passed before the antidote arrives, it seems that Bodhicitta will be abandoned. May I (603) never have the thought of abandoning sentient beings. Even if it arises involuntarily, immediately stop it with an antidote and immediately confess. Even if I cannot actually benefit them now, I will think of benefiting them in the future. This is the forty-second contemplation project. The second teaching is to strive to accumulate merit. If I gradually increase my merits, I must practice the two accumulations more and more extensively. I must practice the two accumulations from today onwards, that is, the accumulation of merit: as stated in the sutras and treatises, the merit of offering to the Three Jewels is very great, as well as offering to the Sangha (604), offering Tormas to the spirits, prostrating, offering, circumambulating, reciting Dharani mantras, practicing faith, meditation, compassion, practicing patience, etc. Accumulation of wisdom: listening to the Dharma, upholding words, thinking about meaning, using reason to cut off doubts by distinguishing connections, the so-called giving in the emptiness of the three circles, understanding and knowing by hearing that all of Samsara and Nirvana are without self-nature, gaining certainty through thinking, and one must realize it through meditation, so one must practice this meaning. Offerings, etc., should be taken with the view of realizing emptiness (605). Practicing in that state of view, merit will become wisdom, and wisdom will become merit, thus combining the two accumulations. Think about this repeatedly. During each break, also put these into practice as much as possible. This is the forty-third contemplation project. The third teaching is that one must practice the four pairs and eight branches. The four branches of black Dharma are generally very harmful, especially leading to forgetting Bodhicitta in the next life. The four branches of white Dharma are generally very beneficial, especially leading to remembering Bodhicitta in all lifetimes. Therefore (606) black

One must abandon the four black dharmas and cultivate the four white dharmas. Among them, the first pair is deceiving the lama and the worthy recipients of offerings, which is a black dharma. Deceiving means deceiving them with lies. To counteract this, one must abandon all intentional lies. If one does not speak even a small intentional lie to ordinary people, how much less should one deceive the worthy recipients of offerings? The second pair is making others regret things they should not regret, which is a black dharma. One should feel regret for things that should be regretted, such as sins. However, if one tries to make others regret the good deeds they have done, (607) whether they should regret it or not, it is a black dharma. The ways to make someone regret are: saying, "This donation is too much, what's the point of donating so much?" Or saying, "If you take vows, your children and wife will starve." Or saying, "If you don't take revenge on your enemy, you will become weak," and so on. To counteract this, one must help sentient beings mature in the virtues of the three vehicles, cultivating the white dharma. One must lead sentient beings into whichever of the three vehicles they prefer. In particular, one must try to guide them into the Mahayana as much as possible. One must make them do as much good as possible. One must also have them plant the seeds of aspiration for enlightenment (608). If one can try to lead those who do not do good deeds to do good, how can one make them regret it? The third pair is teaching others. Speaking harsh words to those who have generated bodhicitta is a black dharma. Harsh words mean directly or indirectly criticizing the faults of others. Whether or not one has generated bodhicitta, whether or not one has lost bodhicitta, it is the same. Even saying "I have generated bodhicitta" should not be slandered. To counteract this, one must cultivate the white dharma of seeing all sentient beings as teachers. Because all sentient beings have the tathagatagarbha, (609) and are the objects for accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, they are no different from the Buddha. As it is said, "Sentient beings and all Buddhas are the same in accomplishing the Dharma of the Buddha." Therefore, one must generate the concept of seeing all sentient beings as teachers, and always praise and extol them. Even to ordinary sentient beings, one should not slander but praise, how much more so to those who have generated bodhicitta? The fourth pair is regarding sentient beings
