Furthermore, to the east of this three-thousandfold great thousand world, there are countless immeasurable three-thousandfold great thousand worlds. For example, if one filled a three-thousandfold great thousand world with mustard seeds, and then took one mustard seed from it and placed it on one of the three-thousandfold great thousand worlds to the east of this one, and likewise placed one mustard seed on each three-thousandfold great thousand world, eventually the mustard seeds would be exhausted, but the three-thousandfold great thousand worlds to the east would not be exhausted. Even if one did the same thing again, the mustard seeds would be used up, but the three-thousandfold great thousand worlds would not be exhausted. Even if one repeated it again and again, it would be the same. Even if one did that for countless eons, the realms of the world would not be exhausted. All of those (588) are filled with beings of the six realms. For all of them, from considering them as mothers to cultivating loving-kindness, is as before. Now, it's not just the east, but all the ten directions and the vast expanse are the same. There is absolutely no end to the sky of the ten directions. Wherever the sky pervades, the container world pervades. All sentient beings are kind parents. The number of times they have been parents is immeasurable. Each time, they have bestowed various benefits and removed various harms. May these old mother sentient beings be happy! May they be joyful! I will place these (589) in unsurpassed bliss, so think and meditate. Although there are very many categories of internal objects for those, because it is necessary to guide them according to intelligence, the division of quantity is somewhat difficult, and in order to expand the mind of loving-kindness, the objects are gathered into one great object, which is called the thirty-eighth object category. At this time, it is very important to understand the structure of the container and content world realms. With that, the guidance of loving-kindness is completed. The second is to cultivate compassion. The preliminaries and conclusions are the same as before. These sentient beings (590) should be placed in happiness and joy, but looking at the state of sentient beings, these sentient beings do not abide in happiness and the cause of happiness, but abide in suffering and the cause of suffering. What they want is happiness, and they do not want suffering, but what comes is that happiness does not arise, only suffering arises. Most are actually abiding in suffering. Hell has the suffering of heat and cold, hungry ghosts have the suffering of hunger and thirst, and animals eat each other. Even in the heavens, there is the suffering of short life, many diseases, little power, poverty and destitution, being enslaved by karma, and falling.

Like being cut down, etc., in reality, one cannot avoid experiencing these sufferings oneself. (591) All beings, in general, are engaged in countless causes of suffering. In particular, some may not be experiencing intense suffering right now, but because they have accumulated immense negative karma, they will have to generate anger in hell as soon as their breath completely stops. These beings are even more pitiable than those who are currently experiencing suffering. If any illusion arises, I think, "Oh, what is best?" For example, if one's own root mother is blind, her legs are broken, there is no one to guide her, and her walking stick is lost, and she is about to fall from a (592) cliff edge, what should I do? Without looking at anything else, I would rush over and grab my mother to prevent her from falling off the cliff. Similarly, these old mother beings, their eyes of wisdom are blind, their legs of skillful means are broken, there is no virtuous friend or good companion to guide them, they are separated from the walking stick of merit, and they have repeatedly engaged in all kinds of unthinkable sins, deviating from the path to higher realms, and are about to fall into the abyss of the three lower realms, dwelling in unbearable causes of suffering. These beings are truly (593) pitiable. Now, there is no way for me to actually save them from suffering. Therefore, beings in the three lower realms mainly experience direct suffering, while beings in the three higher realms mainly experience the causes of suffering. Their suffering should be remembered as described in the context of the intermediate being. If that suffering were to befall me, I would not be able to endure even a small part of it. How could these beings endure what I cannot endure? They have not actually experienced such suffering, yet they gradually (594) engage in endless causes of suffering, causing suffering to arise continuously from one suffering to another. These beings are truly pitiable. May these beings be free from all suffering! May they be free from all causes of suffering—karma and afflictions! May I save these old mother six realms beings from all sins and suffering. I repeatedly think that I must liberate them from the suffering of samsara. Thirty-ninth mind training section.
