Then I myself have not transcended those sufferings. (542) Meditate as before. Thus, these seven sufferings are also present in other sentient beings, but since humans are the main users, they are mentioned here. The eighth suffering, there is a way of thinking about it here, but it will be easier to explain it below. The twenty-sixth section on objects of focus. Furthermore, if one is born among the beings called Asuras, would it be happy? It is not happy. Because of jealousy of one's own deity's glory, one always feels great unease in one's mind. From time to time, fighting with the gods, because the Asuras' power of merit is small, they suffer greatly from being killed, beaten, dismembered, and separated, etc. (543). Most are on the dark side, so they do not like the Dharma. Even if some believe, they are those with obstacles from the ripening of karma, and have no chance of special realization. Then, if one is born as a god in the desire realm, would it be happy? It is not happy there either, because one indulges in desires without restraint, and one does not realize that one's life is exhausted. Furthermore, the lesser gods are expelled from their abodes by the more powerful ones, causing suffering. Some with little merit have nothing but a lute, so they are very poor. When they see other wealthy gods, they feel disappointed in their own merit and have immeasurable mental suffering. (544) In particular, in the realms of the Four Great Kings and the Thirty-three, the suffering of fighting with the Asuras is very great. All the gods of the desire realm share the suffering of death and falling, which is called the suffering of transference and falling. For the gods, seven days before death, five signs of death appear: the color of the body becomes unsightly, the mind becomes depressed and dislikes the seat, the decorations of flower garlands become old, black dirt accumulates on the clothes, and dust arises from the body. When these signs appear, (545) their own servants and male and female friends abandon them and go to other gods. Although they are attached to the desires of the gods, they know that they will be separated involuntarily. There is no way to prevent it. It is like a cow losing its calf, like a naga being carried away by a garuda, like a fish being dried on the beach, like a ship sinking in the middle of the great ocean. The suffering arises for a long or short time.

If it is said that seven days of the gods, even if calculated according to the shortest lifespan of the Four Great Kings, it is four hundred and fifty years. The suffering is heavy, and the time is long. The suffering of falling refers to the fact that after the death of the gods, the possibility of being reborn as a god is very slim (546). The opportunity to be born as a human is also very rare, and most will be reborn in the lower realms. As it is said: After transferring from the heavenly realms, if there is no remaining merit, then one will involuntarily become an animal, a hungry ghost, or fall into hell. Because the gods have supernatural powers, they know where they will be reborn when they are about to die. Even if they are reborn as humans, they cannot satisfy their desires and will see much suffering. If one is reborn in the three lower realms, knowing that one must endure the suffering there, the inner suffering will arise unbearably (547). I think the physical suffering of the three lower realms is greater than the inner suffering. This is the twenty-seventh contemplation project. So, if one is born in the upper realms of the gods, will there be happiness? There is no happiness there either. Because those heavenly realms of the upper realms, although there is no obvious suffering in the eyes of ordinary people, in the eyes of the noble ones, their essence is nothing but the suffering of conditioned existence, and they are like being intoxicated by samadhi. Ordinary people cannot obtain higher and higher merits. After tasting the taste of samadhi, they cannot abandon this flavorful samadhi. Some people will die because they lose their samadhi. In particular, all the beings living there, when the momentum of past karma is exhausted, will be reborn in the desire realm again. Previously, when practicing worldly samadhi in the human (548) body, at that time, it seemed comfortable and relaxed in the formless realm of samadhi, but because no reliable reliance was produced, one eventually fell into an ordinary person, becoming intensely afflicted and greatly suffering. I think what is the point of doing that? This is the twenty-eighth contemplation project. Second, thinking that all of samsara is suffering: the preliminaries etc. are as before, starting from the place of hell being so painful, to hungry ghosts, animals, and humans.
