Having taken birth as "Rapa," later encountering adverse conditions, many afflictions arose, leading to the accumulation of various deeds to be abandoned, and so on. The suffering of being helplessly frightened by birth itself means that birth itself is frightening moment by moment. Thus, one should contemplate: birth is suffering. This is the twenty-second point of focus. Furthermore, people also have the suffering of aging. At the time of aging, there are five sufferings of decline. The so-called decline of color means that the complexion and good radiance all disappear, and the color becomes unsightly, either black and swollen or bluish-gray. (535) The hair turns white like flowers in a meadow, and the radiance of all the senses is lost. The so-called decline of form means that the teeth fall out, the body becomes hunched over, the limbs become crooked, the flesh becomes dry, the skin becomes loose, and the face is filled with wrinkles, like an old mattress, which is not beautiful to look at. The so-called decline of strength means that when standing up, one needs to use all four limbs for support, walking is unsteady, sitting down is like a salt bag with a broken rope, and speaking is mumbling and so on. The so-called decline of the senses means that the eyes become unclear, the ears become deaf, and so on, appearing to others as if one is pretending. (536) The so-called decline of enjoyment means that if food is scarce, one is hungry, and if it is plentiful, it is indigestible, and so on, making it impossible to enjoy desirable objects. I myself have not abandoned the suffering of aging. If I live long and grow old, I will eventually age. Friends, relatives, enemies, and all these beings are the same, one should contemplate in this way. This is the twenty-third point of focus. Thinking about the suffering of illness: there are other sufferings as well. From past karma and immediate causes, various kinds of diseases arise. There are also five sufferings: The so-called increase of suffering and discomfort is the actual suffering of pain itself. The change in the nature of the body is the wasting of flesh, the drying of skin, and so on. Being unable to enjoy pleasant objects as one pleases, and having to rely on unpleasant objects, these two mean that one cannot enjoy food and behavior as one wishes, and one must rely on disliked medicines, acupuncture, cauterization, and so on. The so-called separation from the life force is the suffering of dying or fearing death. Illness itself is a preliminary welcome to the suffering of death. I myself will eventually from illness

It will become like that. May all sentient beings, including my spiritual friends, enemies, and relatives, be just like me. The twenty-fourth contemplation. Furthermore, there are other sufferings, namely the five sufferings of death: separation from perfect enjoyment; separation from a perfect foundation; separation from a perfect retinue of friends; and also separation from a poor and miserable body; death itself is suffering and intense discomfort. We ourselves are attached to and cling to places, houses, or possessions. Think of the superiors above, the servants below, and all the direct friends who are separated (539), and must die with great suffering that cuts off the vital points. In detail, meditate as explained in the previous section on the impermanence of death. The twenty-fifth contemplation. There are also other sufferings, namely the suffering of not finding what one desires. That is, for the sake of enjoyment, or quarrels, or obtaining a little power, one engages in battles without regard for life. One must also go through many years. One is always engaged in work that never stops throughout the four seasons. The feet are blistered, the hands are calloused, the waist (540) is a horse, and the rope is used as a whip. Even if one pulls south and pulls north, no wishes are fulfilled. All hunger and thirst are endured. All heat and cold are despised. There is no rest day or night. Even if one's flesh and blood are blurred, one cannot even make a living. Efforts are made in vain, and one becomes discouraged. Furthermore, there is the suffering of encountering unpleasant things. One falls into the hands of enemies, or disease and intense suffering befall one, or one encounters animals that kill, or one falls into a cliff, or is carried away by water, (541) or hears bad words, or is imprisoned and suffers punishment, and so on. Furthermore, there is the suffering of separation from pleasant things. When one is separated from indispensable things such as parents, siblings, family, etc., unbearable suffering arises in the mind, and even the body deteriorates. Similarly, whether property is lost, or power declines, or authority is lost, or whatever place one cherishes and desires deteriorates, great sorrow arises in the mind. Like this.
